The next day, Narin went to her guardian, who, judging by his voice, wasn't in the best mood. Bernardo found out about everything that happened and he didn't like it too much. Young Vazquez, being in front of him, felt like she was on the rug at the headmaster of some school.
Serrano drove her there and walked her to the door. It was only when they met Bernardo that the trader had to go his way.
"I'll call you later." Narin exchanged glances with Mauricio, who just nodded and left Bernardo's house in silence.
The elder Torres rested his chin on one hand, the other resting on his wooden desk, which he occasionally tapped with his index finger. Man looked at his daughter, didn't take his eyes off her and said nothing, which irritated the mulatto even more.
"Say something." She said after a long moment, to which the man just sighed.
"I don't know what to say or where to start." He shook his head. "Ah, mija..."
"I know what you're thinking." She interjected and shifted slightly in her chair. She had come straight from Mauricio's house to the guardian, so she was still wearing his clothes. "But..."
"Mija..." He interrupted her and looked at her again. But it wasn't a stern look. The elder always treated his daughter well. He never took it out on her, warm words always came out of his mouth, even when Narin did something wrong. Torres never yelled at her. He spoke calmly and gently. "You killed those people... cops and... kids... just because someone attacked me. Honey, not all of them were..."
"Just because?" She interjected and placed her hands on his desk, moving much closer to the guardian. "Berni..." She said then sighed. "Each of them had a part in it, even if not a big one, but they did." She gestured with her hands. "The police brought Thiago here because they knew he would like the idea of taking a moment to get revenge on me. Thiago attacked you because you're close to me. I'm sure he knows you survived it, so I won't be surprised if he tries to attack you again." She explained pretty quickly. "I killed those cops because they deserved it. "
She slapped her hand against the desk and leaned back into the chair she was sitting in, across from Torres.
"And I killed the kids because... I wanted that whole boss of theirs to know that I had my eye on her and would get her soon. "
"She knows it. She was at my place screaming about how you murdered her people and... her only daughter." The elder sighed. "She also told me..."
"What? That she wants to arrest me?" The mulatto girl laughed. "I'll kill her before she can do anything..."
"Narin." He interrupted her and looked at her, and the expression on his face greatly surprised the assassin. "I need to tell you something, mija."
"What's wrong? What's that face, Berni?" She was even more surprised. "If this woman told you something then..." She stopped when her guardian showed her photos from the documents he got from the policewoman.
Narin froze the moment she saw the pictures of the young woman. This woman was dead, someone had murdered her, and worse... Vazquez knew her. It was Candela.
"Señora Burton showed me these documents today..." He continued, looking carefully at his daughter looking at the photos of her deceased companion. "It was one move... straight to the heart. They said she must've known the attacker because she didn't defend herself and..."
"It's Perez. " Assassin interjected sternly.
"We're not so sure."
"Of course we are." She took a picture of a gray-haired woman in her hand and fell silent for a moment.
