I sit with not a single thought in my head other than why nobody here likes me. I've tried time and time again to make my coworkers here even acknowledge me, I had even brought in a box of donuts just to lighten up the tension. But their tones were as dry as their words.

My legs cross away from the group of people on the east side of the desk while I sat alone on the west. It was a quiet day today, meaning all anyone ever did was talk and gossip. I could tell exactly what it was about judging by their hateful eyes on me.

Now I never had a problem with bullies. I grew around them and honestly had grown immune from all of the hate. But going from a job where men and women would compliment you all day for drinks to a job where everyone you work with hates you and all the customers are rich pretentious snobs, got to me.

I tap my pen against the desk and look around the large space in hopes someone would break me out of the silence of my own mind.

"Vee! How has today been?" my prayers are finally being granted, Emily comes out of the back room applying a pink shade of gloss on her lips. She puts the little tub in the pocket of her blazer after doing so.

"Extremely quiet," I say resting my head on my hand. She laughs and clocks in on one of the computers. I think Emily is the only person who truly likes me here.

"Not talking with the others?" she sits next to me and opens a notebook while side-glancing at the group of laughing adults. I shrug my shoulders and place the tapping pen down.

"They don't like me" I come out and admit to her. She looks at them suspiciously then back at me.

"They just think you were the reason Tess got fired" She rolls her eyes and starts to write in her notebook.

"Who?" I say and turn my seated body to her. She looks at me with a sheepish grin.

"She was the person whose spot you filled. She was fired the day we found you were coming" I start to feel guilty for something I was not even aware of. I place my face in between the palm of my hands with a groan. "But honestly I don't believe that shit, I mean Tess was rude, she only got a job here because she said the boss liked her, which again, is total bullshit" She laughs but stops at my still face.

"Boss?"

"You know the boss, no one knows his name but sometimes you see him walk down here. Brown hair, tall, total dream boat, by the way, you've probably seen him but just don't remember" she rants on without taking a breath.

"Actually I think I have" She nods her head with a snap of her fingers to my words.

"If I wanted to talk with him who would I speak to?" I say trying to seem like it was out of curiosity.

"He doesn't really talk to workers. You'd have to speak with his right-hand men. But I guess you'd go to his assistant Nancy," I nod slowly, "why? Do you want to talk with him or something?" we laugh together as if it's a joke for her to ask me that.

"No, just curious" I make clear.

"Oh, that's Nancy by the way" Emily nudges her head to a girl stumbling out of the elevator with a stack of papers her lil is stuck in between her teeth the whole time it takes her to walk to the desk. "Hey, Nancy."

"Hi," she says out of breath once the papers are plopped onto the table. "These documents need to be filed please" Her voice is a little bit squeaky which weirdly enough matches to her height.

"Course," Emily stands and grabs the file. I look behind me making sure Emily takes the items to the backroom before talking to Nancy.

"So Nancy" she fixes her glasses and smiled when I call her name. "I need to speak to Emilio, is there any time I can make that happen?" I whisper his name and tuck my hair away to block my lips.
