Here I was wrapping multiple gifts for a little boy who made my heart burn just as much as his sister. Spear was so innocent, still so unaware of the world around him his views on everything were always positive. I never thought I'd be one to enjoy a child's company until I met Spear, he was entertaining, sweet, and reminded me of the person who made my heart beat twice as fast.

"Ok, here write your name," I said sliding one of the gifts towards John. No matter how much I tried to ignore John he was always there. There were times when I'd wished to not be so alone in a big house and somehow John made that wish come true. We'd somehow bonded on things and in some wild ways, he made me think differently about my father. Having heard his entire backstory along with how he treated Davina her whole life made me understand her more, and that's all I wanted to do.

"What is it?" He asks writing his name down on the wrapping paper. "I'll pay you back." He says bringing a chuckle out of me. That's exactly how we got into this situation in the first place.

"Consider it a gift," a gift to gift. "It's a car set, he loves cars," I smile slightly just thinking about Spear's reaction to the set.

"You love my son," John says watching my face closely as I pick up both gifts. I drop any trace of a smile and clear my throat. I had been letting my emotions show too easily lately. I couldn't help it, something felt different I suddenly felt hopeful for the days ahead of me. It was unusual and intense but it was a feeling I wanted to keep.

"He's a good kid, Davina did well with him," letting my face get the best of me it softens just thinking about her. Was I blushing?

"And you love my daughter." My eyes widen at his words. It was all I was hearing for the past week, what made everyone think that? I tried my best to keep the talk about Davina to a minimum while she was all of my thoughts throughout the day. "A mafia leader and my daughter, how on earth did that happen?" he chuckles while fixing his shirt for the tenth time.

I bought John new clothes along with a few essentials. Now here he stood freshly shaven and clean, it hadn't even looked like I tortured him a few weeks ago.

"You were somehow tied to me. It's a small world. Are you ready to go?" I grab my keys from my pocket with my free hand and make my way to the door. John opens it for me along with closing it when we're both out. I don't miss how he looks at the sky and takes a deep breath in. Right, this was his first time out.

"Don't try running away," I say eyeing him down as I walk to the car.

He laughs, it's genuine just like what he says next. "I have no intention of fucking up anytime soon. I don't ever want to see Davina look at me like that again." That makes two of us. We get into the car at the same time, and throwing the gifts in the back I sigh, "Can you tell me more about them," we've had hour-long conversations about Davina and Spear, and I thought I'd get sick of talking about them but every chance I got to id take.

I start driving, "Well as I said, Spear loves cars, he's always watching through the window when I leave admiring my cars, he's into his nails being painted, dance parties and movie nights. He is the most positive person in the world, a person could be dying in front of him and he'll think of an upside." I laugh just imagining the situation. "And Davina-" I let out a shaky breath and tightened my hold on the wheel.

"Davina is unlike any girl I've ever met. She's the strongest person I know and that's a lot coming from me. She's extremely selfless, too selfless. Everything about her radiates joy even when she's at her lowest. She has a large ego and insists on doing everything herself, she's very independent," John chuckles next to me, it's a chuckle that is laced with both guilt and happiness. He has a small smile on his face as he watches me talk about them.
