"You love him!" Dalia says after hearing me speak about Emilio. It had been two days since Emilio dropped me home and yet all I could think and talk about was him.
I start to laugh. If there was one thing that I hated about myself it would be my lack of faking a laugh. The loud sound echoed through the kitchen which only made Dalia smile even more.
"I don't love Emilio," I shake my head unsure of what love even felt like. I couldn't love him, it was too soon. I had yet to even forgive the man for all he's put me through yet Dalia was fully unconvinced.
"Really? Because you've been talking about him nonstop and your face is as red as your hair and freckles. You're a tomato." My jaw drops open.
"Hey,". I place my hands on my warm cheeks hiding them from her wide eyes. "It doesn't matter if I do or not, he doesn't love me." She laughs at me almost on the verge of falling off of her chair. I roll my eyes suddenly annoyed from talking about Emilio which normally seemed impossible. "Dalia."
"I'm sorry-" she composes herself with deep breaths, "Emilio confessed he has feelings for you yet you think that this is one-sided."
"There's no sides period. Yes, he confessed that but it's not like he wanted to. He didn't want to like me, so I weakened him," I felt guilty even saying it.
"Please, that's every girl's dream." My face drops into a serious look before I shake her off and start to walk to the living room. She follows after me explaining exactly what the dream was, "Come on, he's the leader of the most feared Mafia in the world, weakened by a girl," she drops onto the sofa as if she were to faint. It was as if she was fangirling over the predicament I was in.
"A girl who comes from the rough side of town and is raising her six-year-old brother, he doesn't know what he's signing up for," I start to clean the living room unable to sit still just like my mind.
"Now you're just overthinking. Emilio is well aware of your life just as you are about his. You two are too alike for your good," and for the first time, I agreed with her. Emilio and I were a recipe for disaster if he truly thought how I did we'd be through before anything even happened.
"I don't know. He hasn't even texted or called me yet." I pause midway through folding a blanket when Dalia raises her hands for me to throw it at her. Sighing I sit next to her and throw the blanket over us.
"He will. He's probably just overthinking like a certain someone," she nudges me into shaking my head with a laugh. All I could do at this point was wait to see what would happen next.
"I'm hungry," Spear walks down the stairs slumped. He dramatically falls onto our lap with a groan before getting any attention.
"What does the birthday boy want," I say tickling him to finally see a smile. He curls up in a ball while trying to push away my hands.
"Hey stop," he laughs sitting up straight when I pull away and pushing his hair back. "And my birthday is tomorrow" I had never done anything extreme when it came to Spears birthday, luckily Spear wasn't the type to care so much about the day, a simple cupcake and candle was more than enough to set off his whole week.
Having a bit of money saved specifically for his birthday this year I decided to plan something out for him. It was going to be a small party at his favourite park, with all of his friends, to say the twins were excited would be an understatement. Angel had picked out an outfit two weeks before the date while Adriano had a stack of cars waiting to be gifted.
"How old are you turning?" Dalia asked already knowing the answer to the question. Spear counts his fingers till he reaches seven and then holds up the amount for us to gasp at. "Woah, who told you to grow up so fast," Dalia poked at Spear's stomach between each word. He laughs with a casual shrug bringing us into a fit of laughter.
