Right On Track

Chapter 6

Kiara moved through the room and towards Carlos,barely stopping to respond to those who called her over or complemented her on her win.
She thought that Carlos would at least keep their differences aside for today,but he clearly had other plans.It angered her even through the embarrassment.
Near a far end of the rooftop,she approached Carlos.
He was leaning against the metal railing,a glass in his hand as he stood by himself in silence.
He calmly watched as she approached him,a fist clenched as she readied the words she would snap.
When she stopped right in front of him and he only arched a brow as he looked down at her.But he was the one to speak first."Already bored of Pierre?"
"Excuse me?"She said,crossing her arms.
"Sorry,"He sneered."I just assumed that you two would be longer."
"Stop that and answer this,"She snapped."Why did you tell Pierre?Do you know how humiliating that is?"
Carlos frowned."I didn't tell Pierre anything."
"Then how does he know about Nathan?"She questioned."And there's no saying that so many others won't find out soon."
"Even if I did tell him,"Carlos said."Don't you think that it would be better if people knew you were standing up against it instead of just letting it go on?"
Kiara shook her head."You know how embarrassing it was the last time.Why would you-"
He set his glass down on a nearby table and firmly said."I didn't tell him anything.And what reason do I have to?"
"Then who did it?"She scoffed."As far as I know-"
"Stop accusing me,Kiara."He stepped closer."Why don't you ask Pierre yourself?Since you two are such good friends,he can surely be honest with you."
"Stop it."She tried not to raise her voice,as there was still many people around.
"Or else?"
"Or else I'm going to slap you in front of everyone."
"Go ahead,then."He said,leaning forward."I'd like to see you try."
Her eyes widened and she glared at him,his eyes flickering with merriment.And he didn't seem bothered at all,rather keeping relaxed.
She tried to hide it as she swallowed,but her deep intake of breath gave it away,causing him to smirk.
"I don't know who did it,Kiara."He said,pulling back and straightening."But I'll just let you realize that nothing stays a secret forever."
"It's not fair."She looked away from him.He only watched her as she carried on."I wanted this year to start better than last year."
He frowned."Better in what way?"
"Once again,"Ivy commented and approached Kiara and Carlos."You two are being boring."
"I mean..."Lando put in,moving to stand beside Ivy as she stopped next to Kiara."There isn't much to do."
"Shoud I be offended by that?"Kiara said,looking at Lando.
"Yes,actually."He said."Max's was bigger."
"They always plan Max's parties bigger."She rolled her eyes.
"I don't think he's even here."Ivy glanced around.
"Nope,"Lando confirmed."Barely even saw him after the race."
Kiara looked at Carlos,who had already been looking at her.She quickly looked away and said to Ivy."Excited for Melbourne?"
She smiled widely at that."Of course I'm excited.It's my home grand prix."
"First,though."Carlos said."We have the two week break."
She shrugged."Time will go by."
Kiara,grateful that Lando and Ivy hadn't heard about Nathan yet,forced a smile and said."Any interesting plans?"
Ivy thought about that for a moment,then replied."Just spending time at home,actually.And I think I'm going to go home earlier so I can spend more time there before the race weekend.Other than that,the usual routines."
"What about you?"Carlos asked Kiara,surprisingly.
She avoided his gaze,but replied."I'm going to Austria for about four days.Mostly sim racing and visiting family in my free time."
"When are you leaving?"Lando asked.
"Wednesday morning. "She replied.
"And then you're free again from...?"
"I'm flying down to Melbourne next week Monday."She nodded while giving the answer.
"Carlos and I are visiting some of the golf courses on Tuesday."He said,looking at Ivy as well."Maybe you two could join us."
"I wouldn't mind."Ivy said.
Kiara chewed her bottom lip and said."I think I'm free that day..."
"Do you still remember how to play?"Carlos asked with a grin,knowing how bad she was at the sport.
"Yes."She lied,giving him a challenging look."Obviously."
"All right,then."He folded his arms."We'll see how it goes on the course."
"You'll send the details?"Ivy asked Lando.
"Sure."He said.
Kiara looked over Lando's shoulder and saw Santiago and Christian wave her over.Carlos followed her gaze and tried to hide his sigh.But she heard it,since he was right next to her.She ignored him and said to Ivy and Lando."I'll see you guys later."
As she started to walk off,she almost scowled back at them as Lando decided to comment."You forgot to kiss him goodbye."
She muttered a curse under her breath and moved over to meet up with Santiago and Christian,trying not to glance back while her face turned red.She felt a bit tipsy because of the drinks,too.And she ended up blaming it for the blushing sensation on her face.
