Chapter 71

"Are you staying for my race?"Elijah asked.
"Obviously."Kiara smiled,ruffling up his hair."It's your last one."
"But I already messed up qualifying."He sighed.
"So?"She shrugged."You can make a comeback in the race."
He thought about it for a second,picking at his food.
It was Saturday night,the night before Elijah's final race of his championship.It was also one of the most important,since he would need to win this race specifically as he was on the same amount of points as two other competitors.Kiara was supposed to go for a sponsor photo shoot.But she chose not to,rather staying for Elijah's race.Alora had even managed to make time in her schedule.She was already in Austria.
Kiara smiled at Elijah one more time,then stood up from the dining room table.She went to find Carlos,finding him in the kitchen drinking a glass of water.
"Thanks for staying."Kiara said as she entered the kitchen,walking over to where he stood near the kitchen counter.
He just winked,setting his glass aside as she walked over.
Kiara put her hands in the pockets of her jeans,leaning her back against the kitchen counter as she looked up at him."He really looks up to you."
"Which is why it's a must that I stay for this race."He smiled,moving to stand right in front of her.
"You know,I really appreciate what you did."She said."Even though you literally punched the guy."
He braced both hands on the kitchen counter,each on either side of her as he leaned forward."He insulted someone I love."
Kiara smiled,angling her head and looping her arms around his neck."An attempt to make me blush?"
"Maybe."He quietly said,leaning further forward and leaning his forehead against hers.
She laughed."Wow,my hero."
He chuckled,placing a kiss on her lips."Say it again."
She grinned,kissing him back."My hero?"
He smirked,kissing her again."And I was-"
"Eww!"
"Gross!"
They paused,Carlos pulling back.
"Really,guys?"Alora chuckled."There's a child in the house!"
Elijah cringed,pretending as though he would throw up."Gross."
Kiara laughed."Sorry."
Carlos dragged a hand through his hair,walking over to Elijah and saying."Okay,come on.Our racer for tomorrow needs to go to bed."
"No!"Elijah giggled as Carlos tickled him and picked him up.
Alora just smiled and stepped aside as Carlos carried Elijah towards the stairs and up to his bedroom.
She soon looked back at Kiara,who was still leaning against the kitchen counter with a smile.
"Did Carlos actually come voluntarily?"
Kiara nodded."Even though he kind of had to do a YouTube video with Charles back in Maranello."
"Oh,"Alora said."I didn't even tell Charles."
"What?"Kiara frowned at her sister."Why-"
"Because he would pull a Carlos and cone over here too when he already has so much else to do."
Kiara just looked at Alora,then said."At least tell him after."
"Will do."Alora gave a thumbs-up.
Kiara started to leave the kitchen.Alora stepped aside for her,saying."Carlos is sure good with kids.Why don't you go give him one?"
Kiara's eyes widened and she hit her sister on the arm."Alora!"
Alora just laughed,leaving Kiara to walk away shaking her head at the comment.
Walking up the stairs,Kiara shot her laughing sister one more glare,then went to her room.
She passed Elijah's room on the way,seeing Carlos sitting with him and telling him something.He got up from the bed soon after,switching the room light off after tucking Elijah in.
Kiara carried on to her room and went in,checking her phone.Lydia had called her twice already.And she was probably going insane over the fact that Kiara kept missing each call.But if it was really important,she would have left a message for her.
Kiara set her phone aside and went to her bathroom to freshen up.In the silence,she started to feel the embarrassment again as she thought about the past two weeks.
I am really unlucky sometimes.She said to herself,shaking her head as she finished up in the bathroom.
She walked out of her bathroom and into the bedroom,seeing Carlos sitting on the edge of the bed with his phone in hand.
"Need anything?"She asked,walking over to him.
"Nope."He said,looking up at her from his phone screen.
She nodded,standing right in front of him."And by the way,don't mention what happened to Charles.Alora didn't tell him yet so she wants to say it herself."
"Okay,"Carlos said,putting his hands on her waist and pulling her forward."Good thing you told me,I was just about to send a text about what happened."
He pulled her into his lap and she shrugged."Hopefully Elijah wins tomorrow.He's really been working hard for this championship."
He nodded in a agreement.
Kiara sighed,leaning back against him while on his lap.He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her on the cheek.
"By the way,what were going to say before Elijah and Alora got to the kitchen?"She asked.
He shrugged."Nothing."
"Oh,come on."She crossed her arms.
"Fine,"He chuckled at her pout."I was just going to ask whether you're okay after what that guy said."
"I'm fine."She nodded."This is like the fifth time you're asking."
He smiled."Keeping track?"
"No,I just-"
"Love hearing my voice so much that you're keeping track?"He said.
"Hey,you wish."She told him.
He arched a brow,then laughed."Liar."
"I'm not."She crossed her arms.
He grinned,putting both hands on her waist as he held her gaze firmly.
Kiara,not expecting what came next,yelped as he picked her up,turned around and placed her on the bed.
She looked up at him with a lifted eyebrow.Well,he certainly escalated it all.
"This coming race is in Las Vegas."He said.
"I'm aware,you know,since I'm in this sport too."She said.
He chuckled at the tone of her voice,then added."I'm not going to be able to see you that much since we have the race in Abu Dhabi right after."
"Busy two weeks,I guess."She said.
He nodded,then got onto the bed,on top of her with both hands on either side of her head.
"You're going to miss me,isn't that it,Mr.Sainz?"She said,lowering her voice as he looked down at her and held her gaze.
"You're going to be the one to miss me,cariño."He told her,leaning his forehead against hers.
"We'll see about that."She smirked.
