Chapter 96

Kiara was tired and practically falling off to sleep on the couch. She curled up on the end of the couch and yawned.
A moment later,Carlos came over and sat down beside her. As he shifted closer,he asked."When are you going to answer me,cariño?"
"There's nothing to say."She said,leaning back in the couch.
"Don't lie."He sighed. "Come on,Kiara..."
She shook her head and he shifted even closer,putting a hand on her knee.
"Tell me."He said.
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
He frowned."If you're worried that I'll be mad or something-"
"There is nothing."She groaned."Nothing to tell,Carlos."
"Are you sure...?"He asked.
"Yes!"She said,unable to meet his gaze with the lie.
And he caught onto it. He knew she was lying the moment she looked away. He knew her too well.
Carlos stood up from the couch and moved to stand in front of her,his expression now serious.
She swallowed as she tried to hold that intense gaze. And her breath even caught as he braced a hand on the armrest next to her and slowly leaned down."Don't lie to me."
"What? Are you going to scare me into telling you?"She scoffed,shaking her head.
"If I have to figure out what's wrong with you,mi niña,I won't hesitate to do it." He said lowly.
"Well..." She crossed her arms over her chest,shifting back a little."Good luck with that."
"You really think I'm not serious?" He raised an eyebrow
"I dont care whether you're serious or not." She said. "You just wouldn't understand,Carlos."
"I will." He told her."And if I don't,I'll still try to."
She sighed deeply,then leaned back and studied his face. He was being genuine,showing that he really would try. A memory passed through her mind where she had promised to share anything with him if she ever felt like she was in a tough position. With that memory came a feeling of guilt... He really did deserve to know what was going on.
So,Kiara nodded and said."Fine."
His gaze softened at that and he slightly pulled back,going quiet to let her speak.
"I don't mean that I'm not happy when I say this," Kiara explained. "But I'm still scared. I've been really scared since the moment I found out. What are all of our fans going to think? What about my team? Everyone was counting on me for next years championship and now...Now it's all gone. And I can't help but feel like i let them down."
"Kiara..." Carlos loosed a breath and moved to sit down next to her. "Losing next year's championship is not your fault. It never will be. We're having a child. This is supposed to be one of the happiest moments of our lives."
"But the media-"
"To hell with what the media and fans think." He continued. "If they can't let you be happy,they shouldn't consider themselves worthy of being your fans in the first place."
He shifted closer to her,draping an arm behind her on the the backrest of the couch. "And if anyone on that team of yours decides to give you trouble,you will tell me."
She met his eyes,feeling the complete support. It all brought tears to her eyes.
"Not that you won't be able to kill them first," Carlos said,causing her to give a weak laugh. "But still...You come to me right after."
She leaned towards him,almost smiling as he pulled her closer,his face inches from hers.
"I love you." He said."And I love the child you're carrying. Nobody can say otherwise."
She smiled properly at that,feeling her eyes tear up. Then,she moved forward and kissed him.
He put a hand on the back of her neck,pulling her right against him as he shut his eyes and kissed her back passionately.
She ran a hand through his hair,whispering through the kiss."I love you."
He grinned against her lips and pulled her onto his lap,murmuring a few words in Spanish that she assumed was a compliment. He wiped away some of her tears as he held her face.
He was there with her through it all. That's all that mattered.
