I set my stuff down on the gym floor and stretched out my muscles. Last night's RAW ended with Dean attacking Seth. It was a good way to end out the night. Seth was a jerk. Inside and outside of the ring.
"Hey, Marci."
I looked behind me and Jon (Dean) gave me a high five.
"Hey, Jon. What are you up too?"
"Nothing much. Just waiting on you to get here. How was the family?"
"They were good. Saw you on RAW last night. You looked like you beat up Colby (Seth) pretty badly."
"He's fine. But what can I say, I have muscles upon muscles."
He flexed his arms and I playfully pushed him.
"Shut up."
Oh, yeah. I worked in the WWE as a journalist. Not exactly my 'dream job'. I really wanted to be a Superstar but for right now, I was just happy to work in WWE. Jon had been training me for the past couple of months and maybe, just maybe, I would get to wrestle. I hoped it would be soon. It was my dream.
"You're ready?"
I nodded and got into the ring. We trained for a long time and I was getting better every single day. By the time training was over, we had both broken a sweat.
"I'll go get some water. You did good."
I smiled as Jon went to grab some waters. I was so happy. That was, until I saw Colby walk through the door.
"You training again? What is this now? Five months? You would think you would be good by now after that amount of time."
"I guess some of us actually want to learn how to wrestle instead of just winging it like you."
He feigned pain as he grabbed his chest. "Ouch. You know, words hurt, Marci."
"It's Marcella to you, as I have told you a thousand times before."
"Ooh, you're kind of cute when you're mad." He jumped up on the apron and stood inches away from me. "So, what exactly happened that made little Marci so upset?"
"You walked in."
"You really don't like me, do you?"
"No, I don't."
"That's too bad because I really like you." He said as he smirked.
I smiled and pushed him off the apron. He fell to the padded floor below. I heard Jon start dying of laughter as he looked at the scene. He handed me my water before helping Colby off the mat. Colby fixed his hair and walked off, clearly embarrassed. See, the reason I didn't like Colby was because he was the worst person I could ever meet. I used to train down at NXT as a journalist. That was the only available spot they had for me and that was how I first met Colby. He wanted everything to be perfect and because I was so nervous about it being my first day, I messed up several times. Colby was pretty upset with me. He called me a 'rookie' which I was but I was still mad when he said it. After that, he continued to be a terrible person towards me. Though he seemed nice, he was always rude to me. I hated him for treating my like dirt and no matter what kind of person he actually was, he made no attempts to apologize to me or be nice for once. He also had just gotten worse since I moved up to main roster. See, Colby was a jerk but he was also a flirt. He flirted with anyone and everyone. I, unfortunately, had been his biggest challenge to date. I didn't fall for his lame one liners and his plastered on smile. He flirted with me every so often but he knew that I would never go out with him. It didn't really bother me much. I had many guys flirt with me over the years but I just wasn't interested in dating any of them.
"He won't just give up, will he? He must really like you."
"It has nothing to do with that, Jon. He doesn't care for me. He probably hates me to be honest."
"Then why would he go through all this trouble?"
"I'm a pawn in his little game. I'm probably the only single girl in the locker room he hasn't gotten with. It's a game to him and he is the best player in the room. But what he doesn't realize is, I'm so much better."
Jon shook his head and I could see him smiling. "Come on, let's go get something to eat."
I nodded and got out of the ring. I followed after Jon and we walked out of the gym.
"Marci."
Mercedes (Sasha Banks) ran over to me and pulled me into a hug. I wasn't a big hugger though that made Pamela (Bayley) pretty angry. I hugged some people and Mercedes was one of them. She had a kind heart no matter how she acted in the ring. Outside of the ring, she was the sweetest person I had ever known.
"Sit, sit."
I sat down across from her and Joe (Roman). Joe smiled as I sat down next to Jon in the small booth.
"So, how was training?" Mercedes asked.
"It was good. Jon has been teaching me a lot. It ended pretty badly though."
The two looked confused and I heard Jon laugh.
"Colby showed up." Jon explained.
Mercedes and Joe gave knowing looks and then went back to their food. And that was my life. Go on the road with some of the best people in the world, be a journalist, practice with Jon and then occasionally go home. I loved my life and I hope it would never change.
"You want me to what?"
"You heard me."
I was in Paul and Stephanie's office. They were supposed to tell me whether or not I was ready for the ring. Every time I had a practice, Jon would give them an update. They would then call me in and say how my performance was. Then, they would give a time span on when I could have my tryout. They smiled as I walked in. I thought I was getting my tryout date. But of course, that was not the case. Instead, they decided to throw this big bombshell on me.
"How is it even going to work? They all hate each other."
Paul laughed. "We have that all taken care of. All you need to worry about is whether or not you can work with them."
"I can work with two of them."
"Two is good enough for me. What about you, Steph?"
"Yeah, I think that is fine."
I was appalled. "Paul, I can't. I won't."
His expression changed. "Do this for me and I'll give you what you want."
"What?"
"Do this and I will let you wrestle."
It was like the air had been taken from my lungs. I had to do this to be a wrestler?
"You're bribing me?"
"No, I'm speeding up the process. I want to say that you're ready because you are. But, you'll then have to go down to Florida and train there. That will take a little while. Then you'll have to be on NXT for a little while. Then maybe, you'll move up. With this, I can just have you wrestle with them."
"So, it is sort of like a bribe?"
"Sort of."
I sighed. "Fine, when do I start?"
"Next Monday."
"Next Monday? Really?"
He nodded. "Yeah. Here is a script. You can ad lib most of it but you have to have these lines somewhere in it."
He handed me a packet of two sheets of paper. I looked down at it. I would be doing interviews with all of them.
"Ok. Thank you, sir."
"No, thank you."
He smiled and I left the office. Great. This was my new job.
