As the only two girls in the taskforce it was only natural that you would bond with Misa.
Despite having different interests, and being on different sides, sometimes you just needed girl talk.
Which is why you and Misa were hanging out on your floor. The one floor, besides L's that had no wiretaps.
The cameras were still there, L was super protective of you after all.
You were sitting in the living room, drinking tea with the model. It seemed like she had something on her mind.
"(Alias)?" You lifted your head, waiting for the her to continue. "How did you know Ryuzaki loved you?"
You sipped your tea slowly, thinking about how to answer.
"We were friends for a very long time, since we were kids really. Things had been gradual for us. Childhood friends turned sweethearts." You thought back to your childhood, a soft smile on your face.
"It took him a while to realize his feelings for me had changed. I had figured it out a few months before he did. I remember that day well. I had had a bad day at school. The school bullies were in full force that day. I had been walking home from school when the bullies started following me home. I was almost there when I noticed they had me surrounded. The only option I had to escape was a dark alleyway. The only good thing about the alley was it was a shortcut I used when visiting Ryuzaki."
"But the bullies caught up before I could reach his house. He must have heard my cries for help, because he was suddenly there, taking on all four of them. Several neighbors had seen the attack, and they had taken the bullies away." You took a drink then, remembering the moment.
"He was amazing, standing over me so protectively. I mean, I knew he was protective of me, but I had never seen him fight before. He helped me up and pulled me close for a hug, which was new. Usually, I would initiate any hugs. That was when I knew."
Misa was silent for a while, thinking about my story.
"What about now, though? How do you know he still loves you?" She asked.
"Well, when it comes to Ryuzaki, actions speak louder than words. You know? Like a true detective. It's all in the little things he does for me, without me even having to ask."
"Like what?"
"He makes sure I eat something if I am busy. He gives me an extra scoop of ice cream if I am having a bad day. He gives me a slice of chocolate cake when I am cramping. He always gives me good morning and goodnight kisses. And he keeps an eye on me when I am alone."
"Isn't that creepy, though? Like you have no privacy?"
"Not at all. I still have some privacy. There aren't any wiretaps in my suite, but he has cameras here. If I fall, or if I get sick, he knows instantly and can come to my aid. When we were younger, we were visiting some friends, and I fell from the top bunk in their bedroom. Scared the heck out of him. I was pretty sore for a few days afterwards, but I didn't break anything which was surprising." You paused a moment, glancing around as though making sure no one else was around." Just between you and me, Ryuzaki likes coming in just after I've fallen asleep. He tucks me in."
"Really?"
"Yep. Ryuzaki and I are the only people with access to the tapes to my suite. I've seen him on my feed. He also likes taking care of me. If I am stressed, he fixes up a candlelight bubble bath for me. While I am soaking in the hot water, he sets out my favorite sleep set, and places his blanket on the couch for me to wrap myself in. He even has my favorite movie set up to watch."
"Aww, that is so sweet! I never would have thought he'd do anything like that."
"What's with all the questions Misa?" You ended up asking her, receiving a sigh in response.
"I've just been wondering about my relationship with Light. He's so busy with the case that he won't even give me the time of day. No matter how hard I try. Ryuzaki is also super busy with the case, but he seems to at least make a little bit of time for you."
"If you don't mind me asking, does Light ever give you any indication that he returns your feelings? Has he ever told you that you're pretty or wish you a good day at work? Has he ever done anything for you like Ryuzaki does for me?"
"No, not really. We've only every been on one date, if you can even call that a date. It was pretty lame. Ryuzaki was the only one to even say anything to me. Light just sat there until he punched Ryuzaki."
You had heard about that. You were running errands that day since Watari was busy. So that was why you weren't there.
You were certainly angry with Light for attacking L, but you understood your boyfriend had done that on purpose to relieve some stress. L knew exactly what buttons to press to get Light to fight him, and he had done that masterfully.
Girl talk ended quickly after that, Misa had to get to work.
Unbeknownst to you, Misa would be thinking about your talk for a good few days.
She would watch you and L whenever she had the chance. She noticed the small interactions she had missed before. The slight smiles he gave you when you sat down coffee or cake in front of him. The sweets he'd slide towards you if you were skipping lunch while you worked.
Small gestures that were easy to miss if you were focused elsewhere. However, it was these sweet little gestures that shows the detective cares about you.
Small interactions and gestures she never got from Light, despite her attempts at gaining his attention.
All she ever got from Light for her efforts were growled out remarks about needing his space and to leave him alone because he was busy.
You and Ryuzaki were busy with the case too, but that didn't stop you from doing little things for each other.
Misa even made coffee for Light once, the day after your talk. She sat it beside him as she left for work. He didn't even acknowledge the drink.
When she came back a few hours later, the coffee was still sitting there, beside the college student. It was untouched.
Instead, Light was drinking the same kind of coffee from a different mug. Misa gave a quiet sigh before retreating to her room to think.
She thought about all of the missed interactions between her and her boyfriend.
He never looks up when she enters the room, instead just staring at the computer. He never says good morning or good night. He never asked her how her day was. He has never noticed when she is feeling stressed or tired from working.
