"Why are you upset?" I spoke to Raven as we walked down the school hallway.
"Kassandra, this is our senior year of high school. Life will be completely different after this." Raven's eyes welled with tears.
"Rae stop crying." We stood outside the home economics building. Today we're making pillow cases and matching pajamas.
That's on the back burner because Raven is having a meltdown.
My best friend feels so deeply. She sees the end long before it comes. It was October of our senior year in high school and she is already lamenting over May 31. The day everything will change.
"Raven, after this, we'll be free. In college doing what's best for us." My words finally pierced her ears.
"You're right." She replied through sniffles.
"Let's make this year unforgettable." I smiled as we walked hand in hand into the Home Ec building.
I made Care Bear pajamas with a fluffy pillow. Raven made Lisa Frank pajamas and two small pillows. We tried on our freshly sown pajamas. My pants were a bit short, but they felt amazing. Kelsey's are Doug themed and I loved them. It's one of my favorite cartoons.
We sat in the middle of the school's courtyard talking during our free period. The majority of seniors had one free period. I started taking high school credits in junior high so I had two free periods. One was spent as an office aide.
"I'm pregnant." Jade said loudly. We all turned to face her.
"Oh my goodness." We barraged Jade with questions until tears flowed down her cheeks.
"I don't know what happened. We're so careful." Jade and Johnathan had been dating since seventh grade. She was the first of us to lose her virginity. She gave us the "talk".
"It's okay, we'll be there for you." I added.
"Yes, we will." Shantelle remarked.
We held Jade as she cried. I refused to shed a tear. In my house you only cry if you're in extreme pain. Emotions should be regulated.
Two of my best friends were crying, one of which had a major breakdown. I couldn't control my feelings. I picked up my phone to call Noah.
"Noah, I need you today." That was the first time I needed anything or anyone.
"What's wrong Kass?" He said softly.
"It's just. "My voice broke over the phone. "Can you come to my house?"
"I'm on my way. I love you Kassandra."
I couldn't form the words so I hung up my phone. Forty minutes later Noah knocked on my front door. We sat on my front porch talking about my day. I poured all my emotions onto him.
