I tossed and turned

I tossed and turned. Even wrapped in my husband's arms, I couldn't get comfortable.

Flashback

"Do you think Noah would want you to be miserable?" Raven threw her plush pink pillow at me.

"He doesn't want anything, he's dead." I threw the pillow back, knocking her make-up on the floor.

"Kassandra!"

"You threw it first and you know I can't aim." I shrugged my shoulders then closed my eyes.

Raven continued to put on her make-up then moved to curling her hair while I laid on her bed.

I didn't want to go anywhere. I hadn't been out in over six months and I know I'm not missing out on anything.

"I'm literally about to push you on the floor." The thing I admired the most about Raven was getting on my nerves. She's so persistent and unfortunately for me, she never gives up.

"Okay, I'll go, but I'm not wasting my time putting on make-up. I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt."

"I'll be damned." Raven quickly remarked. "Kassandra you are not going out looking like a hobo." She placed a dress on the bed. "Kassie, it's been over a year. Noah's not coming back. I refuse to let your college experience be getting A's in class but looking like you beg for change."

"I don't look like a hobo." I laughed. "Okay maybe I do a little."

"Get your ass up, Kassie."

I followed my best friend's command and got my ass up. I looked into the mirror and decided today would be the last day, I didn't take care of myself. My life didn't cease to exist the day Noah's car crashed or the day he was lowered into the ground. I deserve a full life."

I did my makeup, straightened my hair and put on the dress Raven placed on the bed.

"There you go. You look amazing." Raven hyped me up to the best of her ability.

The drive to the club was quiet until Raven broke the silence. "What if we meet our husbands tonight?"

"Raven calm down."

"Kassandra, I'm feeling lucky tonight girl." Raven turned the volume of the music up. I was sure she'd blow out one of my car's speakers.

The Belvedere's name was etched in silver against the white painted exterior with bright floral decorations hanging from the roof.

"What are you doing here?" A familiar voice asked. The bouncer, Trey, was my cousin's friend.

"For the same reason everyone else is. Let us in and you should do it for free." I gave him a brief smile.

"I will tonight, but y'all are still getting underaged wristbands."

"Trey, we're almost twenty." Raven butted in.
