I watched as Kassie's brothers loaded her and  Kyla's belongings onto a moving truck. I offered to help and they both declined. The more they moved, the more I realized Kassandra brought into our relationship. I let everything slip away over one mistake. Seven years gone because of one misunderstanding, but there's nothing I can do about it now.

I glanced at Kassandra relaxing her hands on her belly watching Ms. Patrice give her brothers orders. Kyla seemed to enjoy her grandma bossing everyone around too. She smiled each time Ms. Patrice said, "Not like that," and "Oh lord."

Even Moriah drove three hours to help Kassandra. It seemed as if they were having the time of their lives. One thing I love about Kassandra is she's able to make the best out of bad situations.

Fuck.

Our bedroom looked so empty without Kassie's clothes, shoes, her vanity filled with perfumes. A soft knock went across the door.

"Kassie, you don't have to knock. You can just come in." I focused on her movements around the room.

"No, I want to respect your privacy. I don't live here anymore, so I don't get the same privileges."

"Kassie, please. Don't..." I couldn't get the words out.

"Steven, it's okay. I'll be okay and so will you. I wanted to ask if Ms. Deborah could baby-sit Kyla on Thursday. I have another appointment and she cries in her stroller. She agreed, but I know I still have to check with you. Mom will be out of town for a week with Moriah. Feel free to say no. I don't want to be an inconvenience."

"You're my wife, you'll never be an inconvenience. You can always bring Kyla to the office. I'd love to spend time with her, but whatever you decide works for me." Kassie walked close to me then a flip switched causing her to back peddle.

"I don't think I'm ready for that."

"No one's gonna say anything Kassie. As far as they know, our marriage is fine."

"I came to the office last week to ask about Ms. Deborah watching Kyla. You and Evelyn were sitting in your office eating lunch and laughing. You looked happy. Well happier than you've been at home with me. I didn't want people to get the wrong idea so I left."

"Is that why you're moving? It wasn't like that Kass."

"It will eventually be Steven. You're a lover. You need someone to protect and provide for. You weren't doing it with me so it's only a matter of time before you're with someone else." Her voice broke as her eyes watered. "I'm not upset about it. I just want to make a clean break. This way I don't have to worry about what you're doing or who you're doing it with." She wiped away the tears going down her cheeks.

A hundred words went through my mind, but none would come out if my mouth.

"So, I'd prefer if Ms. Deborah came to my house. You can do you, but I don't want my daughter exposed to a parade of women. Once you're in a serious relationship, I don't mind as long as the person is kind to her."
