"The phenomenal Formula 1 season of 2021 has officially ended here in Abu Dhabi. Max Verstappen is the world champion of this amazing season!"

My heart is beating fast. I stop the car in front of my stand. Immediately surrounded by the mechanics, the engineers, Mattia Binotto, my manager and my press officer.

I remove the steering wheel and hand it to the nearest engineer who takes it. We take my seat belt off and I finally get out of the F1 car.

I don't take off my helmet immediately, accepting the hugs of my team and congratulating them for the work they've done this season.

I try not to show my disgust and personal frustration. The season's already over. I finished 10th in my last race, it's not great.

I'm seventh in the final standings. I really hope to do better next season. It's not disgusting, but I'm disappointed. I was expecting a lot better. My teammate, Carlos, finished fifth in the same car and it hurts my ego.

I take off my helmet, approaching a smile on my face to keep my strength. I go quietly to the cameras and reporters to answer questions.

I approach with a nonchalant and relaxed pace, the opposite of the emotions that are bubbling and fighting inside me. With a lot of exposure to the media I got used to playing a role and putting myself in the shoes of a serene character at every race. I play the hypocritical and happy pilot for others when a phenomenal rage seizes my mind and makes me see red.

The journalist hands me a microphone that I catch while still smiling.

" Charles we saw, it was a complicated race for you today and to conclude this Formula One season... What were your expectations tonight?

- Indeed the battle was difficult tonight for me and I am not satisfied with my place, I hoped better to conclude this season. Seventh in the final standings again I can't be proud of it. I congratulate Verstappen on his victory tonight, which only confirms the merit of becoming world champion.

I don't mean a word of what I just said. Verstappen is probably the least deserving driver of the whole grid. He's disgusting and he makes everyone drool. Between him and his father and his team, I don't know who's the worst.

Probably him.

I keep smiling as I listen to the journalist ask me another question.

- What are your expectations for the coming season?

I'm staring at the camera directly with seriousness.

- I want to win the 2022 championship. "

I respond with a cold and slow tone, keeping my eyes on the huge camera in front of me before returning to my eternal quiet smile and greeting the journalist.

I put the microphone down and hurry back to my stand. I see Carlos talking to Mattia. We nod our heads before I lock myself in my driver's room.

I let myself fall into a chair for a moment, letting out a long sigh.

Eventually I get up and take off my running outfit to put on a more comfortable outfit: a jogger and a sweatshirt.

I sit back in the chair and pick up my phone.

We have a WhatsApp group with the other F1 drivers and I'm surprised to see notifications there. They're fast tonight.

Max Verstappen: To celebrate the end of this season I suggest we have one last party all together.
