Fast forward to Monday, the beginning of a new week.

And new working day. My inner voice reminded. With new challenges.

Ha, how can I forget that?

I hurried around the room, making sure everything was in order -I love leaving things neat, prim and arranged, all the while working with time to ensure that I'm not late for work and at the same time trying as much as possible not to forget the things that would be of use to me later in the day.

Hah. I sighed inwardly.

Aww, you're so devoted to your work and also good at multitasking. Some qualities of a wife. You'll make a good wife, you know. My inner voice commented.

I hated when she begins to talk like this. It was sometimes annoying, confusing and stress-compounding.

She snorted. You know, you can't hate me because we're one and if you do, that means you hate yourself. She retorted.

Huh?!

Krystal sat on my desk with her phone doing what who knows, only raising her head once in a while to check that I was doing fine.

"Finally." I breathed, walking towards her. "I'm done."

She lifted her eyes from her phone and cocked her head at me. "You sure?"

"Yeah." I nodded and placed my bag on the table.

"Hmm," she pursed her lips, "let's see about that." She kept her phone in her pocket and stood up.

"Purse with some cash?" She started.

I smiled and waved the purse in her face. "Checked." I answered.

"Elastic band?"

"Checked, with extras."

She gave a slow nod. "Earphones?"

I cocked my brow at her, frowning softly. "Is there any need?"

She blinked. "Of course, there is." She stated. "You'll need some music to help you relax when you're stressed."

"Okay," I said and rummaged through the bag in search of the earphones. "Ha, I found it. Checked."

Krystal nodded and walked to the dresser table and picked a bottle, staring at it.

"Pepper spray?" She turned, facing me.

I blinked, wide-eyed. "Why?"

"You never might tell." She shrugged. "You might need it for those annoying human beings." She said, fixing the collar of her uniform. "A little self-defence won't be bad." She added and stretched out her hand with the bottle. "You'll thank me later."

"Yes, Mom." I replied and snatched the bottle from her hand.

She smiled.

She was good at convincing people about things -she had a sweet tongue and she knew that all too well.

"Is there anything we're forgetting?" She perched her hands on her hips.

I pressed my lips in thin line trying to recollect if there was any. "I'm not sure," I answered.

"Hmm," she hummed, staring at me with furrowed brows.

"Ha!" She snapped her fingers, I jumped slightly. "The file," she started, "the one you were supposed to take with you."

"Oh! Jeez!" I gasped, ran across the room to the bedstand, opened one of the drawers and collected the file. "How could I have forgotten this?" I muttered.
