I blinked my eyes open, trying to adjust them to the light. I stretched and pushed myself up into a sitting position, taking in my surroundings.
I leaned my head on the headboard and closed my eyes momentarily. "Hah." I sighed, opening my eyes.
I was still drowsy and tired from yesterday's work -the running here and there, all to make sure that my client was okay. I shook my head, climbed out of my bed and trudged into the bathroom, splashed some water on my face, brushed my teeth and exited the room.
As I descended the stairs, I heard faint murmurings and as I drew closer, it became clear.
"He deserved it." Dad's voice rang. "He totally did."
"That's not fair." Krystal said. "He was just merely defending himself."
An argument. What could be the cause?
"He should be lucky that he got a yellow card." Rosa scoffed. "He deserved more."
I came down and saw the cause of the argument -a football game.
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. I never knew I had sport analysts in this house.
I looked over and saw Rosa, she was so focused on the game. "Pass the damn ball." She shouted. "Aish, the game has ended."
Ha, even Rosa! What has the world become?
I exhaled, climbed down the last stair and walked into the kitchen.
"Hey," Krystal said. I turned and looked at them. "Look who got out of bed." She smiled brightly.
It was so contagious that I couldn't suppress the smile that began to form on my lips.
"Good morning." I said and snatched the packet of cereal off the counter.
Dad turned in his seat so he was facing me. "Hey darling," he replied. "Hope you slept well?"
I pulled one of the kitchen stools close and sat on it.
I stretched and collected a bowl from the cabinet. "Yes, I did. It was good but I'm still tired." I answered.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to it." He smiled.
I nodded and emptied the packet of cereal in the bowl.
"Dad." I called, just as Krystal and Rosa joined me in the kitchen.
"Hmm?"
I slightly raised the empty packet up for him to see. "We're short of cereal. I think this is the last one."
"Noted, I'll add it to the list." He replied and turned back to the TV screen.
Krystal placed a carton of milk on the table next to the bowl of cereal, leaned on the table and looked at me smiling while Rosa pulled another stool and sat facing me.
I put a spoonful of cereal in my mouth, staring at the both of them. "What?" I asked. "Aren't you two watching the game?" I nodded in the direction of the TV.
"Yes, we are." Krystal answered. "They're on a break."
I shook my head and shoved another spoonful of cereal in my mouth.
"So, how do you do?" Rosa asked and leaned her chin on the back of her hand.
"I'm good." I shrugged. "Okay, I guess."
"Hope he didn't give you much trouble?"
Rosa hadn't been around for most of the week because of a business trip and when she came back, I was nowhere to be found. That being that, we didn't see much this week except for the occasional phone calls and now she wanted to catch up on every single thing that happened.
