chapter 7 choosing time

Detrius said he had to go and do some things so I was practicing with the throwing knives. It had been about twenty minutes and then I could feel someone put their hands on my hips. I looked up and it was Detrius. I smiled up at him. He was already smiling down at me. "You coming princess?" He asked. "If you want me to then yes!" I said turning to face him. He put his arm around my shoulders and we walked over to some stands with what looked like big colourful eggs on them. He turned around to face me. He had his hands in his pockets and was rocking on his heels. "Niki today is the day you get to pick your own dragon!" He pulled his hands out of his pockets and for affect made jazz hands. He came over as I was laughing and took my hand and walked me over to the stands. "Wow so I get my own dragon?" I asked. "Yep. It will be your forever companion. I'll teach you how to talk to him or her through your mind and how to ride it and everything. Its gonna be so much fun!" He said. I was so excited to have my own dragon. "So do I just pick one or do I have to do something special?" I asked. "Well you have to put your hand over top of it and whatever one hatches is the one that chose you." He replied. "Ok well let's go I want a dragon!" I said excitedly. We walked over to the first one. He took my hand and hovered it over top of the egg. Nothing. We tried with the next one. Still nothing. We went through so many other eggs till finnaly we got to the last one. It was a really dark orange with black jagged stripes. I put my hand over it and it started cracking. I went to pull my hand away but Detrius held it there. "Dont pull away or it won't hatch!" I kept it there. All of a sudden it pretty much exploded. Detrius stumbled back and I fell into him. He helped me stand back up and then we took a look at the dragon. It was engulfed in flames but looked happy as ever. The flames eventually went away and he flew over to me. He sat just in front of me and was watching me. "I think he likes you." Detrius said still standing behind me. He had his hands on my hips still from when I fell. "Yea I think so too!" I said back. I looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back and then said "how bout we go back inside since its getting dark?" "Sure. Let's go eat then!" I replied. We walked back inside together. My dragon went and was playing with the other dragons. After we ate we headed back to my room for bed. Detrius started making his bed by the door. "Detrius?" I asked. "Yes?" "Can you sleep in the bed with me tonight? I Dont want another bad dream." I asked. "Um yea sure if your Ok with it." He picked up his blanket and pillow and set it on the table. I pulled the blankets down and he got under them. I pulled them back up. I moved over onto my side because he looked a little uncomfortable probably because I asked him to sleep with me. I reached over and turned out the light. He had been laying on his side facing me. After a few minutes I felt him move closer. He thought I was sleeping. He eventually put his arm over me. I reached up and put my hand on his and startled him. He moved a little closer so that he was just up against me. "Detrius?" I whispered. "Yea?" He whispered back. "I love you." I said. There was silence for a second. "I love you too." He said. He kissed the back of my head. After a few minutes his breath steadied and he fell asleep. I closed my eyes thinking about what might happen in the future, eventually drifting off to sleep.
