Chapter 86: Aftermath

PART 1: FOLLOW UP

The hardship was over for the time being. Alice had healed everyone. No one even needed to visit the hospital. Just some rest at their homes. The truth about Army 6 & 8's discrimination and non-cooperating nature with EAA was revealed. The Masters and all other Armies voted for the fate of those Armies.

It was unanimously declared that those two Armies would be shut down. All members will go through an investigation and if proven guilty would be sentenced with prison time. If proven innocent, they will be allowed to join other Armies and continue their lives as usual. Captain Rox and Captain Ellie went through a trial and lost against all the evidence provided, they were sentenced with a life-long jail time.

It was not surprising, but also unexpected that some people and groups were offended by Army 6 and 8's closure. These certain groups believed that those Armies were right and humans did not deserve to work or stay on Elemental Lands. They even influenced some people and caused riots in some small towns.

It was exactly like Eve predicted and she had also warned her father, the President. Raymond and the rest of the Army 11 were there. And they remembered the reply clearly. He had said,

"It was going to happen anytime, but we are capable enough to protect the innocent and punish the evil; right now, more than ever."

It was right. The riots were not too violent, in fact no one was killed in them. There were some injured people and it was painful, failing to protect them even after knowing what was going to happen. Learning from the experience, the President gave a speech and in front of the entire country he swore to never let any innocent get hurt ever again.

Aarav had not shown himself after he was fully healed. Annie was with him, so she gave the update. Both of them just rested on the terrace of their building for the whole night. Doing nothing, not even talking, just staring at the sky, the moon, and the stars in silence. Annie knew Aarav was badly hurt. He could not accomplish his goals. She was worried he had given up, but the next day, she found him training.

Gavin was mad that he missed on the main action. He was busy with fighting some morons which was what he asked for in the beginning. He knew the missions Raymond and Katie or Annie and Aarav were going on were just about investigating. He chose the mission where he would get to fight, but things turned out to be the opposite.

Raymond and Katie had seen Eve wielding some weird powers. They asked Master Wyngaf and Master Owens, but they refused to answer. They asked to talk to Eve directly. So they did.

"It's something I don't understand fully," said Eve.

The three of them were standing on the porch of the beach house. The time of sunset was soothing.

Eve explained it all. She came to know those weird powers while she was with June, her sister, in the Dark Forest as a kid. She noticed it coming out of her when she was not well physically or emotionally. She lost control at the dormitory at Elemental Academy once; that's when Alice and Annie found out about her. They supported her and did not tell anyone.

Eve also mentioned that she was adopted and she came to know that right on the day she lost control at the dormitory. Raymond and Katie gave her a small group hug. Eve smiled and said,

"I'm fine, I have never been emotional. But this power is actually a curse. It is passed down genetically, and as I am adopted, we currently have no way to find the trace of this curse. We don't know much. Some history books vaguely mention it, but these books are over 500 years old, this curse has no trace in the previous century."

"We'll help you trace it," said Raymond.

"If you want us to," Katie added with a smile.

"I honestly don't want to," Eve said. "I'm just glad you did not freaked out."
