"Three years of ups and downs, nothing to show for it now
And I know it ain't pretty when the fire burns out
Calling me when I'm drunk remind me of what I've done
And I know it ain't pretty when you're trying to move on"

Around 10 in the morning, I reached Lucy's place. She told me that Mr.Xander hadn't talked to her after yesterday. Even Chelsea wasn't in the mood to talk about anything when she called.

I sighed. If they solved the problems between them, Lucy wouldn't be so stressed.

Mr.Xander was seated by the kitchen island when I walked in. He was in a thick hoodie that was damp with sweat. Probably he was working out as usual and now trying to eat breakfast in peace. A frown hung on his face as he twirled the pasta with a fork.

"Good morning, Mr.Xander." I stood by the door and smiled but he didn't look my way as usual. "I came to take Lucy for the ultrasound-"

He momentarily glanced up, took his plate, and disappeared upstairs. Lucy stood frozen on the stairs when her father marched past her without another word.

"Hey..." She gave me a weak smile and I returned it.

As soon as she climbed down, I hugged her. The whole of yesterday we spent cuddling in each other's arms until I had to leave for work. It was cute to watch Lucy being reluctant to let me go and that had prompted me to kiss her again.

"He's still mad at me..." She mumbled.

"It's going to get better," I assured her.

We drove over to Chelsea's place and she was eagerly waiting for us. "How have you been, sweetheart? I missed you so much!" She kissed her daughter's face, and even gave me a brief smile. Maybe she was warming up to me.

By the time we got to the hospital, Lucy looked terribly nervous.

"What if something goes wrong... What if..." She squeezed my hand while Chelsea walked ahead of us.

"Nothing will go wrong. It's normal to be nervous." I brought her hand to my lips without looking away from her.

Just as we neared Alexa's room, a nurse rushed over to me, "Dr.Wilson! I'm so glad that you're here. There's something that requires your immediate attention in the emergency room."

"Now?" I frowned.

"Yes, doctor, please. Samuels is on it but he needs a second opinion. I know your shift just ended but this just popped up out of nowhere."

I sighed, "I'll be there."

Lucy squeezed my hand again and mustered a smile. "I wanted to be there with you when we see the baby for the first time..." I mumbled.

"You can be back in a jiffy. The baby's not going anywhere," she chuckled and kissed my cheek.

As lovestruck as I was, I had to reluctantly let go of Lucy and hurry toward the emergency ward. It would be just a couple of minutes until we saw the first glimpse of our child. My heart was pounding too fast.

As soon as I was done talking with Samuels, I sprinted down the stairs to meet my angel. After a few quick knocks on Alexa's door, I let myself in because I was too damn impatient.

Lucy was lying on the bed, her mother and Dr.Stone next to her. Alexa was busy rubbing the transducer on her stomach and all three women were dumbstruck while staring at the monitor.
