"We were caught up in the high, it was better than drugs
Too high to see that it would all lead to destruction"~-~-~
I drove while Lucy was in the backseat with her mother.
Nobody talked for the entirety of the car ride, and I was obviously nervous. Every five minutes or so, I'd glance back at Lucy. She kept staring out of the window all the while, and my heart ached to touch her—to tell her that everything was going to be okay.
Even though it wasn't.
Alexa was a friend that I had made along the way, and as far as I knew, she worked at Rashmond as a young gynecologist. I didn't have her contact details, but I believed that she'd be there.
"I'm here for Dr.Stone," I told the nurse at the reception while handing her my card. "Right this way, doctor." She led me and the women through corridors bustling with patients and white coats till she reached the final room with the name 'STONE' hanging from the door.
After firmly knocking on the door, a chirpy voice told us to come in. "Dr.Stone, a Dr.Wilson is here to meet you." The nurse told her while letting us in.
"Ah, Danny! How have you been?" She quickly stood up to plant a brief kiss on my cheek, and I returned the same.
"I'm good" My smile was weak. "This is um..." I wavered while staring at the angel next to me, "This is Lucy, a good friend of mine, and her mother, Chelsea"
"Oh right, nice to meet you!" Alexa shook their hands and invited them to sit down while I stood next to her chair. I told her that we needed to do both the blood and urine tests to confirm whether Lucy was actually pregnant. Just in case, I wanted to be zen percent sure.
Chelsea and I waited outside while Lucy was inside to do tests.
"I'm so relieved that you're here," she said, turning to me with a sigh.
I gave her a weak smile. "Mr.Xander's not taking this well, huh?"
Chelsea groaned, "He was going to literally kill Nick that night."
Of course, he was.
"He thinks Nick is doing this because Lucy will automatically inherit everything he owns. Nick is only after the money, and getting her pregnant is an easy way to get her to marry him."
"What do you think?" I blinked at her.
"Honestly, I don't think that Nick is the father... It feels like Lucy's lying. But she never admitted anything about him being the baby's dad. And Nick doesn't look like he cares much, or, I don't know, I could be delusional..." She gave a dry laugh.
I gulped, "I just want Lucy to stay healthy."
Chelsea gave me a warm smile and patted my back, "I wish she had someone like you to care about her."
"R-really?"
"Yeah," she chuckled.
"Then let me have her. I'll take care of her like a diamond. Even better than a diamond. I'll love her to pieces. I'll never let her cry. I'll love our kids. I'll cherish everything about her."
I could only whisper those words in my head.
"Leo wanted a doctor to secretly examine Lucy because he claims that the paparazzi would ruin his reputation. I don't believe a word of it; he just wants her to have the best doctors, even though he puts it like he doesn't care. Leo's always had a soft spot for Lucy, and seeing them like this... So distant... It breaks my heart." She sucked a sharp breath, "Whatever that boy was aiming at, I hope he knows how much he's hurt all of us."
