"If the whole world was watching I'd still dance with you
Drive highways and byways to be there with you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you"

Mr.Xander had beckoned me towards him for an interrogation, as always.

"Where did you run off with her?" He glared.

"She felt nauseous, sir. I didn't want to let her go alone."

He sipped his glass of water, green eyes piercing into mine until Jay slapped my back.

"I haven't seen you drink at all tonight," he commented.

"I don't want to... At least not until Lucy can drink."

Mr.Xander scowled when I gave him a sheepish grin, Jay laughed at us.

"I'd like to see how long this charade lasts with you wagging your tail around my daughter. But Danny, on the day it ends, the gun is going to be 3 inches lower."

"That day won't come." I grinned again, "I'm dying to shout out that I love Lucy."

"You're getting on my nerves," he warned.

But even he couldn't wipe the foolish grin from my face. Lucy was looking so beautiful tonight. She had put on a tiny bit of weight but that made her look adorable unlike how sickly and weak she used to be.

"Doesn't it hurt your pride?" Mr.Xander muttered, his gaze fixed on his ex-wife, "Doesn't it hurt your pride to openly admit shit like this?" He glanced at me.

"No sir," I smiled.

Lucy was carrying my kids. Ours. I was the only guy she had been in bed with. I was the first one to kiss her. I knew everything about her. I was possessive and jealous when it came to her and she knew it. I almost had her parents' approval. I was fucking head over heels for her.

If anything, those were the things that made me proud of myself.

"I wouldn't even mind if she were to put me on a leash and walk me around like a dog. I would still, always, wag my tail for her as you said."

Jay burst out laughing at this.

"You're hopeless," Mr.Xander shook his head, eyes falling back on his stunning ex-wife.

"Says the guy who's been oogling at Chelsea all night," Jay smirked.

"Shut the fuck up. Go get me another glass of water."

"As you say, boss." He rolled his eyes.

It was raining outside by now and my gaze fell on Lucy. She was standing by a pillar talking with a couple of other women, probably wives of Mr.Xander's associates. Her eyes would drift towards the dancing couples in the center of the room and she'd sigh in longing. Maybe, I could ask her for a dance tonight.

"Jay... Jay!" Mr.Xander's sharp voice startled the man.

"What?"

"Did Chelsea drive here?" His eyes were still fixed on his ex-wife as she walked towards the exit.

"Nope, she was reluctant to come so I offered to drive her here. Look, my phone's buzzing... She must want to go home now. I'll be back in a few minutes."

"Stop," Mr.Xander clared his throat, "Give me the keys."

"Uh... she's not going to like this..."

"Give me the damn keys," he growled, "I'll drive her home."
