I was sitting by the drinks counter with Jeffrey as he leisurely took a sip of the 'Watermelon Warzone'
It was non-alcoholic but I had never tasted it before. The very reason they served that here was because Gary and Tania fell in love at a beach resort while sipping the same weird drink. It was hard to believe that he'd drink anything without alcohol though.
"And when will the next wedding be, Mr.Godfather?" Jeffrey laughed.
It was late in the afternoon by now and everyone headed to the wide green fields close to the church where they prepared food for the guests. There was a large covered tent, almost resembling a circus, that hinted at the newlyweds' wild taste.
As soon as we came out of the church in the morning, Danny asked me if it was alright to announce his engagement to Lucy.
I appreciated the fact that he asked permission. I remembered Lucy telling me about that particular trait of his. Even though I hadn't wholeheartedly agreed, my daughter's bump was growing. It was either now or never.
Gary had been extremely overjoyed and he even raised a toast to his brother and prospective sister-in-law. He even proclaimed that he was going to be the best uncle for their children.
Many people approached both me and Chelsea with questions. The ones close to us tried to ward off the nosy gossip seekers and I was grateful.
Danny never hesitated to declare his love for Lucy. He always stayed next to her, his hand on the small of her back as they talked. When the attention turned back to the newly weds, Danny even pecked my daughter's lips with affection, whispering something in her ear that made her laugh.
"He said that it's going to be after the delivery. Doesn't want to stress her out," I sighed.
"Ah, that's wise."
A while later, Danny came up to me, "I'll be leaving in half an hour, Mr.Xander." I nodded.
"Uh... Before I go, I was thinking of asking Lucy for a dance. You wouldn't mind, would you?"
This boy asked for too much permission that it felt like he was mocking me.
"I'm not mocking you, I just want you to not hate me for anything..." He smiled.
"Just go," I grumbled.
"Thank you!" Danny grinned and hurried over to Lucy. He took her hand and led her to the dance floor.
"Wish I was as lucky as you," Jeffrey sighed. "Annie's boyfriend gets on my nerves. Only if he was like Danny."
"At least he didn't get her pregnant, did he?"
"No!" He gasped.
"Exactly. Danny's still a rascal."
Jeffrey pondered over my words for a long time.
Meanwhile, I scanned the crowd. Gary was introducing Annie to the different celebrities he knew. Arthur was talking with Tania and her parents. Danny and Lucy were dancing.
The kids sure grew up.
Chelsea was standing alone in a corner, sipping a glass of white wine. She must have felt eyes on her as she found my gaze almost immediately. Tilting her head, she gave me a playful smile. I licked my lower lip.
"Give me the watermelon shit," I turned to the boy who was distributing drinks. He handed it to me and I gulped it all, and the soda seemed to have killed my lungs.
"Where are you going?" Jeffrey raised a brow while slurping his drink like a kid.
"To keep a closer eye on them."
