Lucy gasped when I told her Leo's stupid confession from two days ago. If he was driving me crazy earlier, now I am the worst kind of insane because of that dirty, attractive old man.
After all that he had said at the restaurant, how could he expect me to throw myself into his arms after a confession that didn't make any sense?
"What are you going to do now, Mom?" Lucy's level-headed voice made me gulp.
"Er... I don't know..."
"You don't love Dad?"
"It's not so easy, sweetheart-"
"Both of you have been telling me the same since day one!" She groaned.
I didn't reply. Lucy was right.
"Look, Mom... You told me yourself that Dad isn't like other men because he's been through a lot and considering that, it is a very big deal for him to admit his feelings. He's always been in love with you. Just because he doesn't say it doesn't mean it's not true. Has anything changed after he confessed?"
"Um..." I fiddled with the paintbrush in my hands, "I don't think so..."
"Exactly!" She sighed, "It's always been the same... The best that Dad can do is confess! Now that he has done that and you've always been hopelessly in love with him, I think you should just hook up with him again."
"Lucy!" My cheeks tinted pink.
"I'm not wrong, Mom," she chuckled.
Even though I loved the wittiness she inherited from her father, it backfired all the damn time.
"You know, Dad hasn't even come to work these last few days. He won't pay attention to anything until you return to him. He loves his company, Mom, you know that. But after that night... He smoked three whole packs of cigarettes. He was acting so crazy... And then you got him arrested... Nothing is going to stop him," she laughed.
I was a bit stunned to hear that Leo was actually skipping work to be with me. He had never taken a day off for himself in his career. If Lucy or I insisted, then he would... But did he really intend to give up being a workaholic for me?
It felt just like that time... After the accident, when I nearly died... Leo refused to go home or to Xander corp.
Fuck, the butterflies inside me were getting hard to ignore.
Think of the devil—my office door burst open and Leo stood there. His eyes, as always, had that amused thirst as he raked them all over my body. God, those pale green orbs could really make anybody weak in the knees.
As always, Leo was dressed impeccably in a suit as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. I had also begun noticing the unruly waves in his hair that probably came with age. No matter how hard he tried, his gray hair was messy and hot all the time.
Damn him.
"Mr.Xander just barged in! I'm so sorry-!" My security guard and Patty appeared right behind him.
Being the arrogant yet 'changed' gentleman that my ex-husband was, he turned to them, "You don't want to walk in on anything explicit." The asshole closed the door.
"What do you think you're doing?" I snapped.
"I'm not here to play with words. You look beautiful, you make me happy in bed, and you gave me a wonderful little girl who unfortunately is getting married to a rascal, anyway..." He cleared his throat, "I'm going to make you happier than you ever were during the 19 years and three months that we spent together officially. Even though we continued sleeping together for eight more months. Chelsea Xander, I want you to marry me again."
