Chapter 4: Jude Heartfilia

Natsu's POV

Ashley drives us by the bay walk. We got out of her car and she stands in front of the bars and look far beyond the bay. I stand beside her with a little gap between us.

"So, when did you get rid of your motion sickness?" She said and lit up a cigarette

"I got it cured 5 years ago in States." I said cheaply and look at her. She just puffs in her smoke still looking at the bay.

"You said you will not go but still you left. And the worst part of it, you left without saying anything to us." Ashley said after she took off her shades and look at me straight into my eyes

"Because I really need to." I said in head down

"Need?!" She said in a bit pissed in her voice

"Yes. It's your father's favor. Jude Heartfilia, your father asked me to go and study in America." I said and look at here

"What?! Father?! Why?!" Ashley yelled continuously asking one word questions

"Yes, your father, because it's for the sake of both of you." I said

"Why us?"

"It's because he only got 1 year to live from now." I said and got goose bumps. I don't really like to say this to her but it's the right time to say it to her.

"What did you say?"

"Your father got a cancer."

[Flashback 6 years ago]

Summer Vacation after Lucy's first year in college. Jude Heartfilia or Lucy's father came to Japan from America, to visit her twins. One day Uncle Jude came to my house. I was surprised at first because he knows my address. I just guess that either of the twins gave him my address. We talk in private in a coffee shop he brought me to downtown.

"I'm sorry for the sudden invite Natsu-kun." Uncle Jude said

"No, it's alright. I don't mind." I said waving my hands

"Then that's fine. I really want to talk to you. It's an offer but it's up to you if you want to accept it or not." He said

"Offer?" I said and take a sip from my caffeine

"Yes. I would like to give you full scholarship to study business in states for 4 years." He said and I almost spit my coffee

"Scholarship?! But why?" I asked

"I would like you to study business to take over my whole company when I die." I got chills down my spine when he said that

"w-W-Wait wait wait what?! I mean why me? You can give it to Ashley or Lucy. And why are you saying that you are going to die?" I said in a panicky tone

"I'm sorry to startle you Natsu. I only have 7 years left to live. I have Leukemia. I have undergo therapy and they said that by 7 years if they can't get me cured I will die. I am going around the world to find the greatest doctors to help me. I need to get cured or I will die. I don't want to leave my daughters without a wall to lean at. So I offer you this for the sake of my twins' future. I trust you Natsu, the moment I met you I know that you are going to be my son-in-law. You plan on marrying Lucy right?"

"Yes but-"

"Then that's great. Please Natsu-kun, I know that this is going to be hard for you but please think about it thoroughly. And please don't tell about my condition to my daughters. I don't want them to get worried about me. I want them to focus on their studies. After they graduate I will gave Ashley the ownership of the Heartfilia Company here in Japan and I will give Lucy what she wants a small business of her own."

"If incase I agreed to your offer, I will leave Lucy without saying any details about why would I leave. It will break her heart and also mine because I don't want to hurt Lucy or anyone else. What's going to happen on our relationship?"

"That's also what I'm thinking about. If you agreed in my offer you can't tell anything to her. I think this will ruin your relationship and I'm sure that she will hate you and all. But please if you agree, tell her something that she won't get hurt and tell her that it's for both your future." He said. I don't think I can accept his offer easily but I'm also worried about him.

"Why don't you just tell them your condition? I'm sure they will understand it." I said

"No Natsu-kun, that's the first and biggest thing I or you shouldn't do. I know them and they will eventually quit school to take care of me when that happen." He said in a really worried tone

"I'll think about it Uncle Jude." I said

After a month~

"I accept your offer Uncle Jude." I said accepting his offer

"Thank you Natsu. Thank you. You don't know how much this means to me." Jude said hugs me

"But I still don't think this is a great idea. If this is for the better of the future and for you Uncle Jude, I will sacrifice our relationship."

"What? You don't need to sacrifice your relationship. You can still be together even though you two are far from each other."

"Don't worry, I'll just fix up everything when I return back."

[End Flashback]

I look at Ashley and her face is wet with her tears. There are no words to explain the pain and sadness of the news she receive from me. I hold her head and lock her up in my chest. She cried as long as her eyes dried up.  I just hold her and this is the only thing I can do for her for that last 6 years that I've gone.

"Ashley I know this will be hard for you and Lucy but please don't tell Lucy about this first. Uncle Jude said that he will tell you about his condition personally. I just tell you about this because I think it's about the time to tell you this. But I can't get to say this to Lucy so please I'm asking you please don't tell her yet. Uncle Jude will come here in Japan when he is ready to face you guys." Ashley just nodded

"And I've talk to him before I came here in Japan. He is recuperating in France, but there's still no chance for him to live longer. He's at the final stage of his cancer."

"I need to go there. He need me to be by his side." Ashley said and run to her car

"Wait Ashley where are you going."

"I'm going to France, tell me his address."

"But Ashley-"

"Please Natsu. Give his address to me."

"Okay." I said giving in because this is the first time I saw this side of Ashley. She changed a lot.
