the moon and stars

It's later that night, and he's sitting on the edge for the entrance of the door. She hands him a cup of chai and takes the seat next to him, while he gazes at the night sky. 

He takes a sip of the drink, and lets the hot liquid scald his throat, it felt nice as the cold breeze hit his face. There was a lot on his mind at this moment, he was very happy that Dr.Sinha had accepted to operate on Akshara but then again he wasn't naive and still knew there was an imminent risk and having Dr.Sinha agree just sped up the timeline of the surgery. He turned to her, taking in all her features memorizing her current look. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't help but be drawn to her and the guilt he felt afterwards pained him. 

There were multiple moments where he wanted to reach to her and console her worries away or calm her down with a hug, but that was forbidden between them because she was married and in love. Even if there was nothing wrong with a hug, he knew that it would drive him to insanity and he was trying his hardest to not be in love with her any longer. 

"When did Dr.Sinha say he would come by?" She breaks the silence first, and at first he's a bit disoriented but quickly regains himself. 

"By the end of this week, so a couple of days. However your surgery won't be scheduled immediately, it will be after some time" He replies in a serious tone, and she just nods along.  Abhimanyu sneaks a glance towards her and then asks her a question he had been meaning to ask, "How's Abhinav? I haven't seen him in a long time, and today he seemed tired from his trip so he didn't talk much"

Akshara doesn't say anything, mainly cause she doesn't know what to say. Even she hasn't talked to Abhinav much, she had tried but he had taken their divorce harshly so he maintained his distance. At Akshara's silence, Abhimanyu decides to continue "He isn't upset with me right? I mean I should have told him about giving the custody back and then thank him for going with joint custody-

"That was between us" She says simply, and it takes him a solid minute to process her words. "Why would he get upset over something that doesn't involve him?"

"He would get upset because we didn't involve him" Abhimanyu counters and Akshara does have to admit it was a solid argument. 

"You're fine. Trust me everything is fine, he's just getting Kasauli sorted so he's been in that headspace" She answers, it isn't exactly a lie but Abhimanyu could tell she wasn't telling him everything. 

"Talking about joint custody, yesterday when i was in court i forgot to tell you about our court dates, we can set it up in two days or postpone till next week" Akshara states, taking a sip of her chai. 

"You were in court yesterday? why?" He asks after a pause, and Akshara bits her bottom lip as she realizes her slipup. 

"I was doing something for my internship" She lies, "My senior asked me to speak to the head judge so I was at court, it was kind of big considering im still an intern"

He looks at her skeptically, and she turns her attention back to the night sky. She still couldn't tell him about the divorce. 

"Don't worry about custody and court right now, we can sort all of that later" He states and there's a finality in his voice, that she didn't find often these days. 

"No but Abhimanyu we decided-

"Not now" He says again, "Akshara you don't need this extra stress, as long as we know we're co parenting him and abhir is happy with it, I don't care a damn about the legal side of it"

She looks at him for beat longer but softly nods, in a way grateful for him. They sip their chai in silence for a bit longer before she says, "the moon and stars look so beautiful"
