akshara twiddled the fork with her fingers, a glum expression painted across her dainty face. her eyebrows were drawn in and her nose scrunched up in annoyance. she didn't know exactly what she was feeling but whatever it was- caused a inner storm to rage inside of her.
"of course Manjiri ji, hum sab ayenge" Manish ended the call, and akshara made an effort to look up at him across the table.
everyone's attention turned towards him but most of the elders passed flickering glances towards her- worried and tense.
"i think they even found a girl" manish said, looking pointedly at akshara. "abhimanyu doesn't seem to like everything that is happening.... but then again he agreed"
"but manish ji hum toh-" swarna tried protesting, but manish signaled her to keep quiet for the next couple of seconds.
"chalo acha toh hai" arohi said with a shrug, and akshara looked towards her with a sharp glare. "even abhimanyu deserves happiness. everyone has moved on, so why should he stay back in the past? haina akshu?"
akshara was taken aback at being directly asked, and fumbled for words. her tongue seemed to be tied- this evening they had got news that after pestering from manjiri, abhimanyu had decided to get married again. there was no rush for him but he was open to moving on and maybe meeting other people.
"i-i think it's good for him" she said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. her voice wasn't steady as she said this, and she grasped the chair to steady herself.
"and you're okay with it right? i mean with everything?" arohi pressed further and akshara couldn't seem to meet her eyes as she gave her a nod in agreement. "chalo acha hua. abhimanyu toh pareshaan thi akshara ke bare mein"
akshara's heart sunk further. abhimanyu had shared this with arohi before her? and she was the reason he was holding back- not because of his feelings but he didn't want a rift between them.
their time spent together while they were intoxicated flashed through her mind, and her eyes grew moist. they told each other that they loved each other, and now everything was falling apart - to some extent, in front of her in a way that could be stopped. but would she?
"i need to go" akshara stood up suddenly and everyone rose worried as they looked at her. "i just need to go. abhim- i mean i need to go to the clinic- mein ati hoon"
"akshu kidhere?" arohi asked, which ensued the same line of questioning from everyone else, but akshara couldn't care less. right now she needed to see him, urgently almost as desperately as she needed air, and she rushed out and got into a car.
she had sped to birla mansion in a rush, without a plan nor motive. she didn't know the reason but she felt the need deep in her that she needed to see him or else she would be repeating an old mistake of hers. however, all her prior rigor and confidence disappaited once she arrived and stood in front of the tall doors of their house.
'maybe i should i have thought this through' she whined internally.
it was rather windy and he pink long dress danced along with the wind, before she had a chance to make up her mind, the daunting doors opened to reveal a rather confused looking manjiri.
