Stefan’s POV

I watch as my mate was bounded and my heart constricted but I kept my playful smirk plastered on my face. I had been around for over 200 years so I knew exactly how to hide my emotions. Gabriel extended his hand and I took it and shook it firmly. All I wanted was to rip his arm off and torture him but I couldn’t do that not yet.

‘Emma I need you to snap out of it. I know you don’t trust me but we both know that you are strong enough to break free from their hold and get away’ I tell her through mind link as soon as we are inside the van.

‘You… handed me over to the bad guys… even if I wanted to escape you are too strong for me’ she answers back weakly.

‘There is a very important reason why I am doing this. I’m not betraying you just please follow their game pretend that the bindings holds you… they don’t know of your magical progress or that you have shifted already. We have to keep it that way to keep your mates and family safe’ I say through the mind link desperately.

I hear her whimper and pretend to struggle then respond ‘what will happen to me? Are you on their side?’

It hurt that she thought I would betray her, we were mates. But I knew exactly were it came from. I had kidnapped her, tortured her, and kidnapped her again. ‘Never… I’m on your side Emma. Have you ever heard of the saying ‘keeping your friends close and your enemies closer?’ I ask her as I smile at Gabriel he was happy to have captured Emma.

‘Yes… so they are your enemies to you too?” she asks panicking.

“Well that was easy thanks for your help Stefan” Gabriel says to me. He thought I was helping him capture Emma and take her for experimentation. He was wrong I knew that using Emma as bait was wrong but I also knew that eventually these guys would strike and take her by force. I had to strike first and I had a limited amount of time. I didn’t know if I would ever get time to train Emma not in the right way. I didn’t want to push her with pain but I was pressed with time. They had given me a few days to get her before they came in with all types of shifters, witches and much worst.

‘Yes they are and I want to take them all down but I needed you as bait’ I respond to her before to Gabriel fearing my next words would worry her more.“No problem… like I said before If I couldn’t have her then no one could” I chuckle and then my expression grows darkly. “Plus… I do get to watch her squirm through the experiments right?”

“Oh you warlocks and your sick minds! I love it” Gabriel response with a round of deep chuckles.

‘I’m scared…I can’t hear the others’ I hear Emma whisper through mind link. We were so close it would be easy to accidentally touch her but I obtained. We were in the back of a ban and I was sitting on the side along with Gabriel and Emma was sitting across from us.

“You know it” I chuckle and slap his arm. I have to fight hard not to touch her or embrace her for comfort but I do end up responding ‘I’ll be fine sweetheart I’ll be here… keep up the act ok?’

“Are you sure she can’t do magic?” Gabriel asks eyeing my mate and then slapping her thigh. She jumps and whimpers frightened.

“Nope she still sees her self as a mere human” I answer and growl at the bumpy ride and shift on the seat. “Are we out of the road or something?”
