Alijah POV

After waiting around for about two hours for our case to be called we were finally in the court room. Honestly, as soon as I stepped in there it gave me an eerie feeling.

I've never thought about nor wanted to have to be in a court room. Not even for the possibility of having a deadbeat cunt as the father of my kids in the future.

Who thinks about that shit anyway?

I trailed behind Mr. Geragos, our attorney, through the little gate thingy, sitting behind the long table as Mama, along with Pops, followed suit. Lyric, who was unusually cheery today, took a seat in the public gallery since she wasn't allowed to sit where we were.

We waited about five minutes for the judge to come out and the whole while we sat there, there were no signs of Shad.

After being seated again, the judge and the bailiff that stood in front of the courtroom conversed quietly, looking at a few papers that were on his bench.

"In the case of Gram vs. Reid, defendant Shad Reid will be charged with a misdemeanor for the failure to appear in court. Regarding Garagos and plaintiff, Alijah Gram, there will be an arraignment when Reid is in custody of Inglewood police headquarters." Judge Mattocks announced before picking up his gavel.

The fact that I knew I was gonna have to show up in this courtroom for a second time gave me no source of consolation. If anything I'm more uneasy than before.

Once we were completely out of the big building, Lyric and I stood at the bottom of the steps, waiting for Mom and Pops to wrap up the conversation they were holding with Mr. Geragos.

It's hot as hell out here, I have on heels, and they're acting as if cell phones had yet to be introduced to the world.

"I'll just shoot Momma a text. I'll probably get a lecture if I interrupt their conversation." I finally gave Lyric an answer.

She'd insisted that we got lunch, a little earlier but I wanted to wait for my parents and go straight home to my bed but things clearly weren't going as I'd planned.

"I call dibs on the passenger seat." She said as a car stopped, letting us maneuver across the street to where she'd parked her car.

"Don't you always."

"Don't judge me. It's not nice." She laughed handing me her keys.

"Where to Mrs. Peterson?"

"In-N-Out. I'm ravenous Mrs. Gram." She spoke in a near perfect British accent.

"Ace."

The 20 minute drive to the restaurant felt exceptionally short, due to the diverse chitchats we had about whatever came up.

I love the fact that Lyric has no problem with being an outlet for the many things that go on in my head. Whether it's about politics, humanity or the shitty relationships I've had with people, she always has an ear for me to vent.

Can you say ideal friend for Alijah Mielle Gram?

Since the drive-thru line was long, I decided to go inside and order for the both of us. After placing the order, I sat down at an empty booth that was closest to the register while I waited for the food.

5 minutes had passed and my nails had become more interesting than what was going on around me. I've never been into the girly manicure, pedicure stuff but it'd probably be fun to finally visit the nail salon for once.

I have nothing planned for the weekend so that's a possible field trip for Lyric, my sisters and I.

Once I'd gotten the food I made my way to the car only to find Lyric fast asleep.
