Alijah POV

I was sprawled out on the living room's couch along with my sisters, Kensie and Lena. We decided on a movie night, watching Sausage Party on Netflix.

I had already watched it at least three times before so I wasn't too interested. I had been going in and out of sleep for the last half hour.

"And to think that I thought this was a children's movie," Lena commented as she scrunched her face at the TV.

"Yo, I dead did too," Kensie said agreeing.

I remained quiet as I lie in a fetal position trying to keep my eyes open. I always ruined movie night by falling or sleep or because I've watched nearly everything on Netflix.

"The hot dogs are hecka mannish and those buns mad thirsty," Lena said.

Once I finally stopped fighting my sleep and began to relax my phone began to go off and it seemed way louder than usual. Maybe I was just too tired.

I ignored it, not wanting to answer but I didn't want to decline it either. It would be too sus.

"Son, you stay violating movie night."

I ignored Kensie, not wanting to argue with her.

My phone wasn't quiet for long before there was another call.

When the both of them began to complain at once, I huffed and got up to answer it.

"Yeah," I answered not even looking at the caller ID.

"What's up, ma?"

When I heard that nice southern accent I immediately knew who it was.

"August?"

"That's my name."

"How did you get my number and why is your name 'Daddy' in my phone?"

Both Kensie and Lena gave me a look and I knew that was my key to go to my room.

"I didn't feel like typing August and I got the impression that you would like that name for me," he spoke so nonchalantly that I was jealous.

"What gave you that impression? I sure as hell didn't," I replied as I sluggishly climbed the stairs.

"Girl you got a mouth out of this world. Smart ass."

"I'm dead just trying to have a conversation with you."

"I feel like this is the start of a weak ass argument so moving on. What you doing?"

He was different. Brooklyn niggas would've been ready to clap back even it was a simple, respectful answer. I'm feeling this vibe.

"My sisters and I have this thing where we do a movie night every Tuesday night. So that but mostly falling in and out of sleep."

"That why you weren't answering? I called you like 10 times!"

"Nah you really over exaggerating, son. You called twice. Ten is mad extra," I laughed as I sat on my bed.

"So you were ignoring me. That's foul."

I rolled my eyes as I put the phone on speaker mode. I replied to my best friend and went to Instagram.

"It really wasn't even a matter of who was calling. I just wanted to sleep, that's why I didn't answer the first time."

"When we Netflix and Chill you can't be falling asleep," he said and I could imagine him smirking. Smooth August.
