Chapter twenty-two

Alyssa Pov

It's been a month since the tsunami, I've been staying with my dad and Athena for this past month. A month of doing absolutely nothing but taking it easy. My dad thought it was best I take a month to relax and get myself together since I've been having nightmares. Athena and Bobby have been waking up to me screaming at night, they're able to calm me down but I just feel bad. I haven't even told Eddie about my nightmares, Eddie comes to visit a lot or I go to his house for a little while. He even surprised me with a movie night one night, Athena and my dad were at work so I was home alone at the house and he showed up with a bag of my favorite food and a movie that we both been wanting to watch for a while now.

Today's a big day, today I return to the 118! Except no one knows I'm returning today, everyone's shift starts early today so what I am planning on doing is surprising them with breakfast. Usually my dad would cook breakfast right before everyone's shift starts. Only problem how am I going to sneak past my dad because he's currently up right now getting ready for work. My room is close to the house door so I could just make a run for it and hop in my car, because the hardest part is I'm currently in my work clothes. Yeah let's just do it cause I have to get going so yeah!

I put on my shoes and grab my bag of ingredients and quickly make my way outside of the front door without making a sound. Thankfully my dad is in the kitchen and not the living room or dining room or else I might possibly get seen. I hop in my car quickly, start the car put on my seatbelt and drive to the fire house as quick as I can. It only takes me 10 minutes and I'm there! Thankfully I noticed that chimney, hen, Eddie and my dad cars are not here, only the people who worked the night shift are still here because they only have 30 more minutes left.

I make my way inside only to find that they're on a call, that makes sneaking in here easy. I quickly put my stuff in my locker and I make my way upstairs with the ingredients. I'm planning on making eggs, tater tots and chocolate chip pancakes. My dad will usually make omelettes, still learning how to make those. I can make them but they never turn out the greatest.

I start making the chocolate chip pancakes and I make almost 60 of them, some for leftovers to a lot to feed hungry workers during the day, then make two bowls of scrambled eggs which I think will be enough. Then I make two bowls of tater tots, you can never have one bowl of some thing in this house you need to have multiple. When I'm done I set the table and I put the food on the table. Only sad part is Buck won't be here, he's still out on medical and I heard he's not happy about it.

I was knocked out of my thoughts when I hear people talking downstairs and I realize the people in the morning Shift are here. I can hear chimney, my dad, Hen and Eddie's voice but I also hear another girls voice, I guess we have someone new!

"What's that smell" Hen says smelling the food that I made. When someone cooks something that smells really good the smell tends to travel throughout the house

"whatever it is it smells like heaven" chimney says which makes me giggle a little but they don't hear it

"Cap did you come in early and secretly cook" Eddie asks my dad

"No, I just got here" my dad says and they look confused

"Y'all better put your stuff away fast cause the food's getting cold" I say standing at the railing where they can see me, I see shocked faces on every single one except the girl

"Omg your back" Hen says excited like a little girl who just got her dream to come true

"Yeah, I'm back and I made food but seriously the food is starting to get cold" I say and walk back to the table where they can't see me anymore. I hear them run into the locker room get ready and put their stuff down and then I see Eddie come running up the stairs and he gives me the biggest hug which almost makes me fall over
