_____
Delilah looked down at her trembling fingers holding the white and blue stick. The three dots repeating itself for what seemed like an eternity. Delilah could think of a million reasons why her period would be late but none of them made sense. All of them but one.
She had previously talked to Maggie about her symptoms before grabbing a test from the supply room. It was the only one left considering there wasn't a lot of family planning anymore. She decided to take it when Shane left on a run with Rick and Daryl.
Delilah watched Judith through the bathroom door. Rick had dropped her off before they left. She was playing with red solo cups Delilah found in her kitchen cabinet that she preferred over her toys.
She didn't mind kids. She loved Judith and watching her grow into a little person fascinated her. She knew Shane felt the same but they didn't seem ready to have any of their own. She didn't want to bring a child into the world they lived in. Their situation was better but it was something they weren't used to.
Delilah glanced back at the test and her heart sank when the word "pregnant" was displayed on screen. The word stared back at her and she felt a sort of guilt. The type that makes you sick. She couldn't stop herself from opening the toilet lid and emptying her insides, stomach acid staining her mouth.
"D?" Judith asked from the other room, a little too excited. Delilah collected herself off the floor and flushed her vomit.
"One second Judy." She answered in a fake bubbly tone trying not to be sick again. She snatched the test off the sink and shoved it in her dresser door trying to forget about it.
"Hey, pretty girl. You want some lunch?" Delilah asked, picking up the young girl off the floor. Judith shrieked in excitement in her arms as she carried her downstairs.
She placed the girl in the high chair and began making a quick lunch. Alexandria was running out of everything. Basic hygiene and mainly food was the issue. They sent groups of people out almost everyday to scavenge.
Delilah whipped up some Mac and cheese with some canned fruit and watched Judy eat to make sure she didn't choke. She usually would eat with her and make it fun but she just left the leftovers on the stove.
For the rest of the day it seemed like she waited an eternity for her husband to get back. All she did was sit on the couch and watch Judy. When they finally got back Shane took Judy back to Ricks house before settling down.
Shane walked through the front door, spotting his wife sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace in the darkness. "Hey." He stretched, plopping down beside her. He pulled her in and allowed her to lay against him.
