Chapter 1

Baoshan Sanren approached the Qiandeng temple with trepidation, knowing that she might fail in her task yet with hope in her heart that she doesn't. 

She enters the doors and looks around at the beauty, everyone knows that Hua Cheng built this temple specifically for its patron His Highness. 

She can see them sitting by a low table near the altar, the one in red has a brush in his hand, writing, face down in concentration. 

The one in white is watching each brush stroke and giving directions on how to make certain strokes. 

Her heart beats faster as she approaches the couple, the most precious thing in the world to her hidden in her robes. 

The one in white notices her, he smiles in greeting, his beautiful face splitting into a wide smile at seeing her. 

He stands up at her approach, the one in red in his dark beauty stands and protectively moves near the other. 

His face is more reserved and weary, watchful but not hostile, he stands guard over his beloved.

Xie Lian welcomes her "Baoshan, a pleasure to see you, Mistress of Magic, What brings you to Qiandeng?"

Baoshan smiles "Your Highness, greetings, it's a pleasure to see you as well. I enjoyed visiting your Puqi shrine during the banquet, it's a lively place, very colorful and festive."

Xie Lian grins "I'm glad you made it by, the villagers did indeed make the shrine quite festive when they rebuilt it."

Baoshan approaches a little closer "Your Highness, may I have a conversation with you and Crimson Rain Sought Flower? It is of the utmost importance and very personal."

Xie Lian nods and beckons her closer "Of course, please sit, what can we do for you?"

Baoshan sits down and chooses her words carefully "Your Highness, Hua Cheng." 

She stops and looks at the red-clad man verifying permission to address him as such. He nods his consent and she bobs her head and clears her throat continuing.

"Your Highness, Hua Cheng, I know you are aware that in the last days and hours of Jun Wu's reign, he cast down or killed several gods."

They both nod Xie Lian with a solemn look on his face and Hua Cheng with a nearly bored expression.

She takes a breath and continues "My daughter Cangse Sanren was one of them."

Xie Lian's shoulders drop in disappointment at Jun Wu's actions once again "We are working to restore the gods who were demoted without reason, it will take some time though."

Baoshan shakes her head "I must continue for you both to understand." 

They nod and she does "My daughter knew something about Jun Wu but didn't have time to tell me before she was demoted to the mortal world. Unlike the others who were sent to the mortal world on this continent, she was sent to the other."

Xie Lian looks quizzically at her "Why would she be sent there? That's very unusual."

Baoshan shakes her head "I do not know but I can tell you that not two days after she got there she and her husband were killed."

Xie Lian gasps "Oh no, I'm so sorry for your loss."

She nods but continues "Thank you, Your Highness, Before she was cast down she came to me, she knew she would be sent to the mortal realm and feared she would not survive." 

"She asked me to keep something very precious safe and specifically asked if you both would take it into your care and keep it safe." She pulls out a Daruma doll from her robes.
