Chapter 29

Lan Zhan and I found a flat wooded area near the base of Dafan Mountain to hunt the dire owl. We move deeper into the woods, and the deeper we get the less we hear the natural sounds of the woodlands, there are no birds or insect sounds after a while. We walk cautiously and are soon engulfed in a thick fog that rolls in quickly dimming our vision.

"Lan Zhan!" I yell because I can't see him.

"Lan Ying I'm right beside you," he says calmly and pulls Bichen out of its sheath and it glows a soft blue showing me where he is.

I move closer to him and we turn back to back "Close your eyes and use your other senses, the fog is disorienting." He whispers to me.

I close my eyes and tune into my other senses, I can feel resentful energy permeating the fog, and the sound of rattling like metal chains. I feel an energy spike and then a thick metal chain comes streaking towards us at a very fast pace. We dodge it and step back to back again.

Lan Ying use your talismans and I will use Bichen to deflect the chains.

Alright Lan Zhan but in this thick fog we can't see where the dire owl is, we need to find it soon, the golden net won't hold forever. This is taking too long.

Lan Zhan and I swat down several chains, they are coming in multiples from different directions trying to ensnare us. I get an idea that I think will work but I don't tell him what I'm doing. He wouldn't approve of my methods but I know it will work.

After deflecting chains for a while, I get caught in one of the chains, it wraps around my neck and drags me to a tree, I struggle and then collapse "losing consciousness". The dire owl dives right for my face and at the last second I grab it out of the air and snap its neck. I smile as I throw it away. Lan Zhan runs over to me and helps me remove the chain from around my neck.

"What do you think you were doing A-Ying?"

I smile at him "It worked, didn't it? It was the only way to get the dire owl, we couldn't see it and the chains weren't stopping. I decided to get "caught" so it would attack me directly and see it worked." I say pointing to the now-dead dire owl lying on the ground. It's surrounded by dark resentful energy, even after death it's still fully encompassed in it.

"Talk to me before you do anything like this again Lan Ying, we are husbands and what affects you affects me. We need to make sure that any plan we execute includes both of us so that I can protect you." He looks at me sternly.

I grin mischievously at him "My husband is so protective of his A-Ying, you are adorable Lan Zhan. I love you, come on let's get back to the others." I say and kiss him before walking off.

He grabs me around the waist as I'm walking off and pulls me back so fast I collide with his chest. He palms the back of my head and kisses me deeply, passionately and causes my knees to become weak. He holds me close to him supporting my weight as he plunders my mouth relentlessly. I moan softly into his mouth as I kiss him back just as fiercely.

He finally releases me and grabs ahold of my arm to steady me as I stagger a little after that kiss. "You are mine Lan Ying, mine to protect, mine to love, mine to punish, mine. Do not do anything like that again without talking to me first or you will be punished. I love you too" he says as he kisses the tip of my nose.

I look into his eyes and see desire and love; I nod and swallow hard unable to speak for a moment at his declaration.

I jump into his arms and hug him tightly "I promise Lan Zhan, I will talk to you first before taking action."

He nods "Mn"

He takes my hand and we walk back to where we left our companions, the villagers seem to be doing alright. They look a little out of sorts but healthy. Wen Qing is checking on them while Jiang Cheng is standing there with a stern look on his face and Nie Huaisang is hiding behind both his fan and Jiang Cheng.
