Chapter 13

He nods and we find a false wall just a few feet away, no realizing it's false we fall through it. 

Lan Zhan lands on his back with me on top of him, I look down at him in surprise and then I hear a throat clear and look up.

I smile "Hi A-Die, Baba, what are you two doing here?"

I ask as I notice both Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen along with a few Lan elders standing not three feet from us.

I look down at Lan Zhan who looks at our bound wrists and he sneers "Get off."

I look at our wrists in surprise and nod trying to get to my feet, sword in one hand and bound wrists made it difficult for us to get up. 

We stand there together, my heart is pounding in fear, anxiously awaiting what they will say. I feel a little tremble start in my body and I can see the same happening to Lan Zhan beside me.

My fathers look between our bound wrists and our faces, my A-Die gives us a stern look "Follow me." 

There is no room for argument or anything else so we obediently follow them back to the meeting pavilion and we stand there before them, wet and shaking but it's not from the cold.

My Baba gives me a gentle look and smiles "A-Ying we need you to explain why we found you two wrist bound. You know what this means in our culture so we need an explanation."

I look nervously at Lan Zhan, I chew my lip and launch into what happened from the time we entered to cold pond to exiting the cold cave.

 Afterward, I swallow hard and stand there my heart beating out of my chest.

My Baba looks at his husband and nods "You are both excused to go get dry and change clothes then you are to come directly back here. A-Ying this is serious, this is most definitely not the time for any sort of mischief. Do I make myself clear?"

I nod my understanding and we turn and walk out, it takes us until we get to my room to unwind his headband from our wrists.

Once we are separated he looks at me intently "What does it mean in your culture to have your wrists bound?"

I take a breath trying to calm myself then heave a sigh "It is a wedding ceremony that completes a marriage bond between the two." 

My cheeks burn with a blush, my heart beating so hard it deafens me, I slowly look at him fearing his reaction "I'm sorry I had no idea my parents would be here to witness the binding."

I stop talking nervously fidgeting with my wet robes and looking down at my feet.

He stands there for a few minutes then his deep baritone voice says "Go change Xie Ying, we need to get back to our families. I will meet you in ten minutes to return to them."

I nod and flee into my room, I shut the door behind me and collapse against it trying to calm my raging heart. 

I brush my damp hair after drying it as much as possible and change into warm dry robes. 

I grab Suibian and leave to get back to my fathers, Lan Zhan meets me at the gate to our rooms and walks with me back to the meeting pavilion.

They all look solemn my Baba says "You both have a seat."

We each take a seat and look at them waiting for whatever they are going to tell us.

Baba clears his throat "A-Ying as you know the binding means a marriage, it also means the same thing within the Lan Sect." 

"The fact that you both have also prostrated before an ancestor only exacerbates the situation."

"Before we get to our decision I would like for me and your A-Die to speak with you privately and Second Master Lan's family would like to speak to him." 

"We will take you home tonight and we will be back first thing in the morning."

I look over at Lan Zhan who is looking at me I smile in resignation and nod to him "I'll see you tomorrow Lan Zhan."

I stand up and he nods "Mn" I walk over to my fathers and we step out of the pavilion and teleport home.

"Come on A-Ying we need to talk and I know you haven't eaten in a day, let's sit at the table"

I nod and sit down my stomach noting nervously.

My A-Die comes back with food and I just let it sit there not sure if I can eat.

They look at each other and my Baba takes a deep breath and sighs "Baby do you understand the situation you are facing right now?"

I nod "I think so, me and Lan Zhan accidentally got married."

A-Die sputters trying not to laugh my Baba gives him a stern look and he clears his throat and stifles his laughter.

Baba continues "A-Ying how do you feel about Lan Wangji?"

My cheeks burn as they turn red and my ears are hot "I don't know." I bite my lip.

He tries again "Ok how do you feel when you are around him?"

I smile shyly "My heart beats faster, my hands get sweaty, my mouth gets dry. I want to be closer to him and I..." my blush deepens.

Baba looks at me "It's ok baby you don't have to be shy to talk to us about anything."

I nod and take a deep breath "My body feels strange sometimes when I'm near him or smell him, I am drawn to him but I don't understand why. I feel like if I could never see him again I wouldn't be me anymore." I sigh looking away in embarrassment.

Baba clears his throat "Baby do...do you want to be married to Lan Wangji."

I shrug "I don't know, what does that mean, I understand the concept of marriage but I don't know what it means to be married."

Baba grabs my hand "Do you see how me and your A-Die are together? How we support each other, love each other, stand by each other and never let anyone or anything come between us?"

I nod and he says "Well that's a lot of what marriage is about, it's also a million other little small things that all add up to the fact that you belong to them and they belong to you. They are yours to love, support and protect and you are theirs."

I ask "So I would belong to him?"

Baba nods, I continue "And he would belong to me?"

He nods again, chewing my lip I straighten my shoulders and sit up "Then I want to be married to Lan Zhan if he wants to be married to me."

It takes a while for me to fall asleep that night, I'm excited to belong to Lan Zhan but I'm scared he doesn't want to belong to me, I drift off to sleep eventually remembering how it felt to sleep beside him.

We return to Cloud Recesses after we finish the breakfast I just nibbled on, I'm too nervous to eat. 

My insides are trembling as we approach the meeting pavilion. 

The three Lan's are seated inside waiting for us, I steal a glance at Lan Zhan but he is looking straight ahead with nothing showing on his face.
