Chapter 59

Author's POV cont.

Wen Xu halts the attack smiling "Aw Uncle you have fought so valiantly, in vain but valiantly. I commend you for your fortitude and commitment to this endeavor however you have been defeated." Wen Xu pauses.

"There are only four of you left, I still have thousands at my disposal, you can continue to fight until you eventually defeat all of the dead I can call from every corner of this land or you can surrender now." Wen Xu shakes his head.

"What do you say? Want to keep fighting here for the next century and miss seeing your children grow up or give in now and I might show mercy on you." He pauses once again.

As he watches everything in front of him begins to shift and fade away piece by piece. The four people in front of him blink in and out, the horde waver and fade then come back, and the landscape blinks to nothing but white and comes back. 

The mist swirls rapidly then stills, the sounds become loud then there is silence. He crinkles his brow as he tries to make sense of what he is seeing, his world is twisting, flipping, turning inside out and he screams as he feels like he has descended into madness.

Wen Xu opens his eyes and blinks rapidly, the brightness is blinding, he shakes his head to try and clear his vision then attempts to open his eyes again. Everything is blurry because the light is so bright, the room slowly comes into focus and he looks around.

His gaze locks on Lan Ying "What?" he asks confusion still clouding his mind.

Lan Ying clears his throat "Glad to see you awake, how was your sleep?"

Wen Xu looks at him confusion still marring his features "What? I don't understand."

He looks around the room and sees Lan Zhan, Hua Cheng, Xie Lian, Baoshan Sanren, and a few others he has never seen before.

Lan Ying paces for a moment then stops "You have been out of it for a while, we decided to wake you up because you have been sentenced after the review of your actions. We are here to give you the verdict."

Wen Xu tilts his head "What do you mean I've been out for a while? How long?"

Lan Ying says "Well I guess I should explain so that you understand everything completely before we give you your sentence. On the day of the Burial Mounds campaign, we set a trap for you. From the moment we stepped into the burial mounds until just a few moments ago you have been in an illusion stasis array." 

"While you were busy sending your horde to attack us, Xie Lian, General Pei, Little Pei and Baoshan Sanren teleported in and put you into an illusion stasis array. Hua Cheng, Lan Zhan and I took control of the horde and put all of the corpses to rest, the puppets were cleansed and returned to their homes and families. Your cohorts have already received their punishments and now you are all that's left."

His eyes widen as the story unfolds "How did you?"

Lan Ying smirks "We have known for three years that Meng Yao has been having an affair and feeding information to someone, we just didn't know it was you. We made sure that the information was just accurate enough over the years and slowly started adding in our own false narrative. I'm curious how long the two of you have really been seeing each other, care to share?"

Wen Xu laughs sarcastically "We have been lovers for years, he was sent in as a plant to gain information. He's the perfect spy, he was welcomed by almost every sect albeit not wholeheartedly but enough to hear inside information. Where is he?"

Lan Zhan deadpans "Dead, found guilty of treason and espionage and put to death."

Wen Xu scoffs "And what of Xue Yang? Same I'm guessing."
