Chapter 48

We wake early in anticipation of the coming battle, Lan Zhan and I take a bath and get ready for our day. Baba and A-Die join us for breakfast and surprisingly they bring Qingheng Jun, Lan Qiren, Lan Xichen and Meng Yao with them. We spend the very early morning together as a family before they all leave to join the allies for the battle. 

The battle is set to start before sunrise in the mortal realm so we all have an early breakfast and we wish them good hunting. They all leave and it's just Lan Zhan and I to sit and wonder what is happening. It's very nerve-racking and I begin to pace with worry for our family members.

"Lan Ying, please calm down, I know you are restless and worried about them but they know what they are doing and have plans within plans to be victorious." He looks at me worry creasing his brow.

I smile at him, walk over and lean down for a kiss, which he gives me willingly. We sit on the couch and talk for a while about the campaign and I feel better as he reassures me that everything will be fine. We agree that with something like this anything can happen and everyone has prepared as much as possible for any scenario and that we have done all that we can do.

I look at him "Thank you for staying with me instead of joining the fight. I know how much you wanted to be there to protect the ones we love, I really want you to know how much it means to me that you stayed with me."

He leans over and kisses me "I did what I needed to do to keep you and our babies safe and you calm so that you don't stress overly much. I love you and I will do whatever you need me to do to keep your worries to a minimum. Here why don't we have some tea and see if it will help keep you calm, the less you stress the better for the babies."

He looks at the woman who brings us our tea and nods thanking her, he pours me a cup and slides it to me "Here baobei drink this, it's a soothing blend."

He pours himself a cup and we both sip the aromatic tea enjoying the delicate flavor. We drink our tea and try not to worry about what's happening in the mortal realm. I know a battle like this isn't going to be done quickly. The sun is starting to rise and I know from my nightmares that the battle will be done soon.

A-Die teleports into the room bleeding and collapses, I gasp and scream "A-Die!" I try to run to him but he looks at Lan Zhan and yells "Get him out of here now!"

Adrenaline floods my body as I see my father bleeding, lying on the floor and in pain telling us to leave. Lan Zhan doesn't ask questions but immediately takes my hand and pulls me to one of the escape routes. I'm scared but I know I'm okay because I'm with my husband, XiXi and Shen Yi are right behind us. We begin to slow down, I feel lightheaded and fuzzy, confusion clouds my brain as I try to shake my head to clear it. I look at the others and see they are no better than me, their faces begin to warp and blur and then there is nothing.

My body is racked with shivers, I'm so cold, I open my eyes and tears spring up because it looks just like my nightmare. I'm lying on something hard and cold, a concrete slab maybe? My hands and feet are bound, I don't speak just listen to see if I can hear anything or anyone. Everything is silent except for a rhythmic clicking. I look around and all I can see is darkness, there is a small amount of light above me that seems to halo me and its dimness. The air smells stale and musty as if wherever I am is not used often or at all.

I hear the sound of a female voice that echoes around me "SELFISH" I turn my head to and fro looking for the source of the voice but I don't see anyone. "YOU GET EVERYTHING" I close my eyes and try to use my senses to see if I can find her. "WHILE I GET NOTHING"

I ask "Who are you, what did I ever do to you?"

I hear a near hysterical laugh "YOU TOOK EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING!"
