Chapter 33

Lan Zhan's birthday was in just a few days and with it being his seventeenth birthday it's a big one. There are several ceremonies including the one where he will receive his new title. The entire sect has been preparing for this day for a solid week. 

The pavilions of Cloud Recesses have been decorated in beautiful azure blue and white in honor of Lan Zhan. Everyone has been in high spirits and even Lan Qiren has lightened up a bit. It seems that since his brother has come out of seclusion he has become a bit less stringent, which is definitely a good thing. Lan Zhan doesn't seem to be fazed by the whole thing, he is still pretty much his same stoic self except with me.

"Lan Zhaaaannnnn, come on, there has to be something you want for your birthday, tell your husband won't you?" I whine while lying on his naked chest, my chin resting on my hands as I look up at him.

He pulls me tighter to him and kisses my forehead "I have everything I could ever want, I have you for my husband, I've been granted godhood, my family is back together except for mother and our sect is peaceful. I'm happy I don't need anything else." He says and kisses me sweetly.

I grumble at him for not being cooperative and he smirks at me, grabs my ass cheek in his hand and pulls me up to kiss me deeper. We kiss for a while then he smacks me on the ass and moves me to the side getting up from our bed.

"It's time to get up and eat A-Ying, I'm going to bathe and get our breakfast while you use the tub. Don't fall back asleep Lan Ying, get up." He kisses my cheek and heads to the tub.

I pout Lan Zhan you fuddy duddy, why do you have to be so difficult huh?

I hear his deep baritone laugh which tickles my brain, I shiver at the sound and get up. I put on my night robe and step out onto the porch looking out at the beautiful view of the rising sun. It's cold and my breath huffs out in soft vaporous clouds as the sun slowly lights up the area where I'm standing. Its diminished warmth still penetrates my robe and slightly wards off the cold of the frigid winter morning. My stomach grumbles in protest and my fingers and toes tingle with cold. I step back into our living space and sit down, I pull out Chenqing and play a soft, dramatic melody while my husband finishes his bath. 

I close my eyes and let the music take me away for a short time, playing from my heart rather than a written composition. Lan Zhan steps out from behind the partition fully clothed but still drying his hair. I feel the subtle vibrations of his steps on the wooden floor. I open my eyes as I watch this incredible man come into my line of sight and stop playing because he takes my breath away and makes my head feel fuzzy. He smiles at me and my brain stops working altogether.

"You are so incredibly beautiful Lan Zhan; I can't believe you are mine. I don't know what I did to deserve you but I'm sure glad I did it." I smile shyly, my cheeks heating with the naughty thoughts running through my head.

His smile widens "I love that shy smile of yours, it's the only smile you have that's just for me."

My cheeks turn a darker shade of pink and I drop my head slightly feeling particularly bashful for some reason.

He leans down and kisses me then I fix his hair so that he can get our breakfast. He steps out of the room and I get to take my own bath quickly so that I'm ready when he brings our food back.

I need to figure out what I'm going to get him for his birthday, I've been racking my brain but so far nothing has come to me. I brush my hair, step out of our home and look around our yard. There is a large magnolia tree and a shallow pond, the rest is just an open yard beside the walk path. Behind the Jingshi is a cold spring and part of the bamboo forest. Looking around I get an idea and smile, I have to speak to Xichen ge, I'll do that after breakfast. We eat and then go our separate ways, Lan Zhan is teaching some of the younger disciples today which gives me an opportunity to speak to Xichen ge.
