Xie Wuxian's first several days at Lotus Pier were fantastic, he learned to swim and eat lotus seeds, he played with other kids who were much tougher and harder to hurt than the kids he normally played with.
He had to be so careful when he played with the kids from Puqi village. It was nice not to have to think before roughhousing with the other boys.
They practiced with wooden swords and shot kites with bows and arrows, It was so much fun but after about a week he began to miss his Baba and A-Die.
He's never been away from them for more than a day or two and he misses them, he finds himself sitting on the dock watching the water ripple and the moonlight dance on the water.
He wonders what his parents are doing right now, do they miss him?
He pulls his little legs up to his chest and rests his chin on his knees, he sits like that for a while.
He hears wood creaking but doesn't move, he can tell by the delicate steps that it Yanli.
She sits down beside him and looks out over the water, she doesn't say anything just sits there. Eventually, Xie Wuxian sighs "I miss my Baba and A-Die, I've never been away from them this long."
She turns and looks at him, her gentle smile showing her small dimples "They must miss you too, if you haven't been away from them for this long then they haven't been away from you for this long either."
"You know the wind carries our messages, if you whisper into the wind it will carry a message to your loved ones. Close your eyes and try."
The little boy closes his eyes, clasps his hands together, brings them to his chest and whispers into the wind the things he wants to tell his parents, mostly that he loves and misses them.
He feels a slight wind caress his cheek and when he opens his eyes he feels better. He looks at Yanli smiles and throws himself into her arms.
She giggles and hugs him "Can I call you A-Xian Xie Wuxian?"
He likes the way that sounds so he nods "Yes."
She smiles "Good you can call me shijie if you like."
He whispers it to himself and decides he likes it "Shijie, thank you."
He hugs her again and right then she falls madly in love with this sweet little boy.
Now in her heart, she has two little brothers, not one.
She stands up and pulls him up by the hand "Come A-Xian we have lotus root and pork rib soup, come eat before A-Cheng eats it all."
He nods and follows her to the dining table, she sits him down next to Jiang Cheng and ladles him a bowl of soup.
Jiang Fengmian looks at the three children and smiles "Everyone eat up, you need to grow big and strong like me." He laughs at his own joke which makes the kids laugh at his silliness.
Xie Wuxian takes his first bite of lotus root and pork rib soup and finds his absolute favorite food in the world.
It's not spicy and he loves spicy but there is just something about this that makes him think of home and he smiles.
The next several weeks fly by. Near the end of summer, Xie Wuxian has learned how to swim very well, he can now shoot the kites with an arrow and he likes some of the sword moves the Jiang sect uses in their sword style.
He has made several friends in the sect's youth and has really enjoyed his time, but he's ready to see his family.
It's time to go home, he says his goodbyes to everyone with the promise to come back next summer and looks for his Baba and A-Die at the gate.
When they walk around the corner Xie Wuxian throws himself into their arms, he misses them so much.
They shower him with hugs and kisses and after thanking the sect leader and his family they take their son home.
From then on he would spend his summers in Yunmeng and the rest of the time he would be with his fathers.
He learned swordsmanship from his Baba, with added techniques from his Uncle Pei. He learned to read and write from his Baba and Nana.
He learned how to shoot a bow and arrow from Feng Xin and Jiang Fengmian with trick shooting added in around the age of twelve from Uncle Feng.
He learned about resentful energy and ghost and demon lore from his A-Die.
He learned critical thinking and how to look at problems from every angle from his fathers and he learned how to night hunt in the Jiang sect.
He began to notice that his friends as they turned eleven and twelve all began to form golden cores.
He could see how strong or not they were and around that same age, he noticed that the colors for the ghosts had changed for him.
He could "boss" around stronger ghosts and by age fourteen he could control/boss a menace-ranked ghost.
He could also outshoot everyone but Uncle Feng and he could almost beat Uncle Pei with a sword.
On his fifteenth birthday, his fathers gifted him and helped him with naming his own spiritual sword "Suibian" his Uncle Feng gifted him his bow "Yi Guo" and his Nana gifted him his dizi "Chenqing."
He was invited by his shidi and shijie to the Lan sect for cultivation classes.
His Nana encouraged him to go and his Baba and A-Die gave him permission to go with the Jiang sect.
It was for several months and would begin in the spring, it would only add a few extra months to the time he usually spent with them in the summer anyway.
"A-Die, A-Die" Xie Wuxian whispered.
Hua Cheng looked up at his son "What's up little one?"
"Ah, A-Die I'm fifteen you can't call me little one anymore." He said with a sneer.
Hua Cheng just laughed at his son "Well then what would you like me to call you?"
Xie Wuxian thought for a moment "Well you've been calling me A-Ying since I was born just stick with that A-Die. Anyway, I came in to see if you wanted to go drink with me while Baba is out."
Hua Cheng never really drinks he just keeps an eye on his son to make sure he doesn't overdo it. "Yes but if we are going let's go now, Your Baba will be back soon."
Xie Wuxian grins and nods following his A-Die, they end up in one of the inns in Yunmeng. Xie Wuxian laughs "Do you know how many times I've drank here?"
They order three pots of wine Hua Cheng takes one and Xie Wuxian takes the other two. He downs the first one then sips the second.
"So A-Ying are you ready to travel to Gusu?"
"I think so, I have to get robes to go there, I figure we can order them while we are here and I can pick them up before we leave for the Lan sect."
Hua Cheng smiles "Good idea, you know you will be on your own starting next week, I want you to know that you're Baba and I am very proud of the man you've become."
"You are intelligent, powerful, strong, caring, good-natured, and a man with solid integrity. "
"You are a good man but always remember that we are your family and we will always be here for you."
"Thank you A-Die I love you both and I'm proud to be the son of Crimson Rain Sought Flower and His Royal Highness The Crown Prince, The Flower Crown Martial God."
He downs the rest of his wine "Now let's go get these robes ordered."
They get to the tailor and order his white robes to the specifications given by the Lan sect.
They have Jiang Cheng and Yanli's robe orders as well so they just added Xie Wuxian's to theirs.
The order will be ready a few days before they are set to leave for Gusu.
