Chapter Twenty

After their shower and a little nap the two of them made their way to the bank, money in hand.

They both were hoping this would work out, that by some miracle they could have their house again.

The two went into the bank and Ruby went up to the teller, JJ hugging her from behind and laying his head on her back.

She smiled and rubbed his arm before sliding the woman the envelope of cash.

She told her all the information of the house and watched as she typed on her computer, then the woman paused.

" it says right here the house has been sold?" She said and JJ and Ruby shared a look, "sold to who?" Ruby asked.

"Cameron Development" The woman said and Ruby grit her teeth, of fucking course this was Rafe's revenge.

" thank you." She said then grabbed the envelope before going outside, angrily scrolling through the contacts on her phone.

" Ruby- hey.." JJ said quietly, following after her, " I swear I'm gonna kick his ass.." Ruby growled, getting ready to call Rafe.

JJ put his hand over hers, " Rue.. I need you right now.." he pled, searching her eyes, " but the house-" she started, " we can figure it out after we get the stuff from my dads.." he assured.

She sighed and nodded, " okay.. okay fine.." she said and started walking, he followed her again, interlocking their hands.

Eventually they ended up at Luke's and Ruby felt JJ tense up, even if he knew his father was no longer there he couldn't help but still have that fear.

She grabbed both of his hands and turned to face him, " hey.. you don't have to do this.. I can just go in.." she said and he shook his head no, " I have to do this.." he said quietly.

She searched his eyes for a moment, she practically feel the fear radiating off of him, she shook her head, " then I'm going in with you.." she said quietly.

JJ looked at her for a moment, he'd only ever let her in a few times, and it was mainly to come and get him the hell out of there.

" Rue.." he said and shook his head, " he isn't here.. let me go with you.." she pled, gently stroking his jaw.

He closed his eyes for a moment, relaxing from her touch before taking a shaky breath and nodding, " just uh.. just be careful of the glass.." he said and led her over to his bedroom window.

She stood outside as he went in first, climbing through once he nodded, " careful.." he muttered, picking her up and moving her over the glass on the floor.

She sat on his bed, watching as he rummaged around his room, eventually she laid down, just letting him take the time he needed to.

Ruby peeked open one eye and saw him standing in front of his bedroom door, his hand over the doorknob.

She sat up slightly, even though her heart was racing she knew..

He had to do this himself.
