𝑃𝑎𝑝𝑒𝑟 𝑅𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠

Chapter Thirty One

The house was weird to say the least, weird beads and almost voodoo looking stuff was cluttered all around.

Not to mention the weird musty smell that kept making Ruby gag, really just wanting to get out of there already.

They were looking for some type of clue, apparently before this guy died he was showing John B and their dad some type of paper.

Ruby had lost interest, trailing after JJ as he went into the kitchen, the two of them searching the place for food.

The two of them actually hadn't eaten properly in a while, having no money will do that to a person.

Which is why when JJ opened the fridge they both smiled like little kids on Christmas, both eagerly taking some of the chicken and scarfing it down.

Ruby nearly cried, she'd actually almost forgotten the taste of real food, and god was it good.

JJ put his arm around her, for some reason he felt guilty, this wasn't the life he had promised her. They shouldn't have to raid some dead guys fridge for an ounce of food.

But god the way she looked at him made him believe that somehow, someway, throughout all this bullshit that somehow it was all worth it.

He watched as she ate more, he really took her in for the first time in a while, he'd always found her beautiful, but he was starting to realize how worn she looked.

JJ frowned, she wasn't supposed to look like this, she wasn't supposed to have the same shitty life he did.

Ruby looked over, pausing and licking her lips, " did I uh.. did I do something..?" She asked, confused about the concerned look on his face, " no baby.. you did nothing wrong.." He reassured, placing a kiss on her head.

After a few minutes John B came in with Sage who was holding the paper, JJ and Ruby pausing mid bite of their food.

" what is this? Snack time?" John B retorted and JJ swallowed, " y'know what? I'm feelin incredibly judged right now and I don't like it" JJ said, " it's the tone" Ruby added, " it's definitely the tone. I mean there's an entire bird in there waiting to be ate. Who are we to deny its wish?" JJ agreed.

Sage tried to hold back her laughter at the annoyed look on John B's face, " god just get in the van" He groaned and walked outside, Sage following him.

JJ and Ruby looked at each other, bursting into a fit laughter as he took her by the hand, the two of them running outside and getting in the back of the Twinkie.

Clearly John B had found what he needed in the house.

Now they just had to figure out what.
