Sage shook her head and reached to turn up the AC, the motor of the truck rattling in an unpleasant way as JJ went over the bumps.
Ruby slapped her hand against the window for stability, groaning as JJ hit a particularly hard bump, her bottom half going up in the air before going back down.
JJ gave her a smirk and she hit his shoulder, "you're so gross" she said with a laugh,
"Yeah but you love me" he retorted and kissed her cheek.
He paused as he noticed the police car up ahead, fumbling to shove the map aside and act normal.
"JJ what the hell are you doing" John B groaned in annoyance, "'m just gonna wave- do a little wave act normal" JJ blurted out.
" JJ- what are you insane!" John B yelled, grabbing ahold of the wheel and jerking it as JJ waved at the police car.
Sage gave John B a death stare as him and JJ bickered, everyone freezing as they heard the police sirens.
JJ pulled off into the woods and Ruby scrambled out of the truck, grabbing ahold of his hand as they took off running.
They got to the Twinkie and Ruby struggled to catch her breath, bending down and bracing her hands on her knees as her stomach churned.
Sage stood beside her, shaking her head as John B and JJ fought like kids over the last popsicle.
Ruby's head snapped up as she saw Shoupe standing next to his truck, her face paling.
"John B, JJ" Shoupe said curtly, "Shoupe what's up?" John B said.
"Got a call about suspicious activity in a u-haul, you four wouldn't happen to be involved would ya?" Shoupe questioned and JJ scoffed.
"What? Just cause we're pogues you automatically think we're involved with drugs? Talk about profiling" JJ muttered in annoyance.
" I wouldn't push your luck JJ. Already got one warrant for you." Shoupe said and Ruby froze.
"W-warrant?" Ruby choked out, "Rafe's pressing charges" He said and went over to JJ.
"This is bullshit! He went after her first!" JJ yelled, "kid c'mon. You know better" Shoupe said and placed the handcuffs on him.
"Shoupe- please please don't take him" Ruby begged, following after them, "I'm sorry Ruby. He's got a warrant there's nothing I can do" Shoupe said and put JJ in the back of the truck.
Ruby stood there and watched the truck go, tears falling down her face as her anxiety built more and more.
She had to get him out.
