"So why is every hot guy attracted to Lara?" Kara sighed as she put her head on her hand.

I looked behind me and saw Ryder talking to Lara. He was leaning against the wall while Lara was all over him.

"Don't you know him? You should tell him how awful she is" she said as she looked back at me.

I chuckled a little. "Oh he knows"

She frowned. Once again she was confused. "Okay Aimée, who the fuck is he and how do you know him?"

"He's my best friend"

Kara blinked a few times, trying to register what I just said. "Josh is your best friend" she looked at me as if I was crazy.

"Well, before Josh. I guess he's my straight best friend" I laughed. But Kara didn't think it was funny. She was probably wondering why I never mentioned him.

We were best friends since I was 10. He was 13 at that point. We went to the same school and we were always together.

He lost his parents in a car crash that same year when I met him, so I begged my mother to take him in.

Which surprisingly she did.

It didn't last long though because my mother kicked him out two years later. He was only 15.
He had to survive on his own even though he was only a child.

I did whatever I could to help him, I stole food, money. I wanted him to be fine.

When he turned 18, he joined the army. He became stronger, learned how to defend himself and to fight.

And no one bothered me anymore since that day because they knew Ryder would make them regret.
That was until I turned 18 and he disappeared.

He disappeared when I needed him the most.

My mother wouldn't have kicked me out if he was still around, she wouldn't have dared.
But she did as soon as she found out he wasn't around anymore.

That's when I moved to Monaco and met Kara. She was my partner in crime for five years. We got in a lot of trouble and people messed with us a lot.

Like Liam, my dad, my mother, Kara's ex and Lara.

We handled them fine, not really though but still the best we could anyways.

It took me a while to explain everything to Kara. She just listened, I don't think she blinked during my story.

"Fuck, so you have a badass best friend who's in our corner" she said as she looked at Ryder. "But we are losing him to Lara"

I looked at the both of them. They were laughing as she put her hand on his arm. I knew she would flirt with him.
He had that power over girls.

"Trust me, we won't lose him" I chuckled.

Kara looked at Ryder with a big smile on her face. "I like the thought of having a badass army guy protecting us" her smile quickly disappeared and looked back at me.
"But what do you need protecting for?"

"My dad" I sighed. "He thinks he's a serious threat because he gave me a knife"

She tilted her head. "He is not gonna kill him, right?"

"He will, if he feels like he needs to" I shrugged my shoulders. "And honestly so will I"

Kara looked at me for a while but still nodded. She knew I had no sympathy for him at all, not after what he did to Jamie.

If he ever tried something to me, he would definitely regret it especially now Ryder was here.
He also thought he was dead, so he would never suspect him to be here.

Kara was right, it was nice to have him here to protect me, to protect us.
