I woke up the morning of June 14th feeling very upset. Hayes wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Morning honey." He whispered in his sexy morning voice.

I didn't say anything. A tear rolled slowly down my face. He wiped it away slowly.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Hm? Oh yeah. I'm fine."

"Don't believe you, but I won't push."

"And that's why you're an excellent husband."

"I'll be back. I'm gonna I make breakfast."

"Another reason."

Hayes shook his head and grinned. He leaned down and kissed me before shuffling out of our shared room.

I slid out of bed and stumbled to my closet. I pulled down one of Hayes' old high school hoodies and a pair of leggings. I got dressed and walked out of the cool room.

Instead of heading straight for the stairs I turned to the left towards one for the smaller bedrooms. I slowly opened the door, tears rolling down my face.

The wall decals stood out against the soft pink color of the walls. I sat in the rocking chair and looked around. The metal cradle sat untouched. The blankets folded at the foot if the small bed. The books sat on their designated spot on the shelf. I closed my eyes and tried to picture my daughter in my arms.

"Baby?" Hayes cooed.

I turned my head. He was standing in the door way, the fresh made breakfast in his arms. I forced a sad smile.

He placed the food in the dresser and came waking over, "Hey.."

I fell into him and began to sob, "Why couldn't He have just let us have her? Just for a minute."

"I don't know. But He knows what He's doing."

I pulled away. Hayes had tears rolling down his face. I wiped them away gently.

"We can try again." He whispered.

I shook my head, "I don't want to lose another."

"But if we don't we'll never have one."

I wiped my face, "I can't believe it's been a year. She would've been one."

"She would've..." Hayes stood and brought me the plate of food.

"Why three?" I asked.

He smiled slowly. Written on one of the pancakes was "Happy Birthday Ava."
He had made the pancake super small.
A few tears rolled down my face.

"Happy birthday Ava." I whispered. Hayes kissed my forehead and sat on the floor beside me.
