~Ava~

Fidgeting absentmindedly with the edge of the bedspread, Ava tried her best to be patient.

After finding out who was calling, Bea had grabbed her phone and rushed straight into the ensuite to answer it. And, even though her fiancé left the door open, Ava took this as a sign that Bea wanted some privacy, therefore keeping herself confined to the bed instead of following.

Letting out a huff, she flopped onto her back, limbs spread-eagled. It was hard. She hated waiting at the best of times, let alone when she could feel Bea's anxiety through their connection. Every instinct was screaming at her to go wrap the other woman up in a hug and fix whatever was making her unhappy.

"Are you fucking serious?"

Ava bolted upright, the surge of rage through the Halo link accompanying Bea's snarl was almost enough to bring forth her wings. She scrambled off the bed and sprinted to the door of the bathroom.

She sucked in a sharp breath when her eyes landed on Bea.

Fuck.

"She's on the edge, Ava..."

She didn't need Halo's warning to see how close her fiancé was to losing it. Bea stood in front of the mirror; brunette wings flared in fury. They filled the entire width of the small room, blonde-tipped feathers brushing against each wall. Bea's Halo was unmissable, the artefact glowing a bright, burning gold in the center of her chest.

"That's bullshit and you know it..." Bea snapped; her trembling hand gripped the cellphone with white knuckles.

"Fine." She barked, voice uncharacteristically harsh.

Bea hung up and slammed the phone down hard on the side of the sink. Ava winced; it was new. She hoped they wouldn't have to ask the Order for a replacement so soon after throwing the last one through a wall.

"Babe?" Ava murmured, trying to get Bea's attention without startling her.

Bea looked up, their eyes meeting in the mirror. Despite the waves of anger rolling off her, Bea's pale face was terrified.

"Bea, what's..." She took a tentative step forward into the ensuite.

"That was our family lawyer..." Bea started, voice shaking, "They're making me sign at the house."

She suddenly spun towards Ava, her wings flinging all the complimentary hotel soaps and shampoos from the shelves beside the sink. Bea flinched at the clattering, her Halo briefly flaring brighter.

Ava tensed, Bea was dangerously close to completely losing control, she had to do something to calm her down, and she had to do it now.

"You need to take a breath, baby." She murmured, taking another step closer, "Your Halo..."

With a look of confusion, Bea glanced down at her chest and her eyes widened, panic setting in. Her Halo flared again; Ava gritted her teeth.

"Ava." She whimpered, looking back up at her in horror.

"It's okay..." Opening her arms, Ava let out a small sigh of relief when her fiancé immediately fell into them, "Just close your eyes and breathe, Bea. It'll be okay, I promise."

Once the initial fear and panic faded enough for her to regain control over her power, Bea's rage rose to the forefront, and she was absolutely furious. Ava watched on as Bea paced back and forth in front of her like a caged tiger while they waited in the lobby for Mary and Lilith.
