***Sorry for the delay guys, this chapter was extremely frustrating to write, but we got there in the end.***

~Lilith~

The hours following Apollyon's murder were absolutely fucking chaos. Bael ordered a lockdown of the Red keep and had Lilith send out the wraiths to scour the city streets, leaving no stone unturned in the hunt for the assassin.

Fearful there might be more attempts on her life, Bael had then insisted Lilith return to his quarters, and that's where she found herself, locked away at the top of the Keep with no less than six wraiths guarding the door.

Pacing restlessly, she looked over at the pair of wraiths standing in the room with her. The lumbering creatures were deathly still, facing away from her as they kept their black, orb-like eyes fixed on the only entrance to the room.

Lilith sighed. She was safe; she felt safe anyway, and besides that, she could more than take care of herself. The worst part about this entire ordeal was having to stay locked in this godforsaken room to wait for Bael to bring her news.

It wasn't even like she was anxious about someone trying to poison her, sure it wasn't ideal, but Lilith was kind of used to attempted murder now. No, what really made Lilith's nerves fray and sent restless energy pounding through her body, was being alone with her thoughts, specifically her thoughts about Mary.

Before Lilith could stop it, the last words Mary had uttered echoed through her head.

There's no 'us' to come back too.

Lilith's steps faltered. The carefully constructed wall around her torn up heart shattering as everything she'd been pushing down in order to do her job on the Otherside came surging to the surface.

There was a rushing in her ears, the pain and fear roaring through her like a river, sweeping her up in its current and blocking out all other sound. She struggled to draw a breath, and only realized then that she was on the floor, her knees and palms stinging with impact.

The door opened.

"Lilith!" Bael was across the room in an instant, kneeling beside her. "Are you hurt? What is it?"

Lilith could only shake her head, reaching for the demon to pull him into a hug, burying her tear-streaked face into his neck. For once Bael was quiet, just holding her back while she cried.

When the storm of emotion had passed, she pulled away, an apology on her lips but Bael met her gaze and shook his head.

"No... no sorrys." He said firmly. "But you need to tell me what's wrong."

"Bael...." Lilith looked away; she really didn't want to talk about it.

"Is it about her? Your mate?" The demon asked carefully, and she flinched, her heart rising into her throat.

She couldn't find her voice to answer him.

"Whatever happened I'm sure you can fix it..."

Lilith snorted, "It's not as simple as that." She pressed the heels of her hands into her eyes, suddenly exhausted. "I don't know how to fix this."

Bael hummed, seeming to ponder something before answering. "Do you still love her?"

"Of course I do!"

More than anything.

"Well, when you return you need to show her that." He said plainly. "I know how stubborn you can be. Don't let her chase you off."
