~Beatrice~

Ava was off, distracted, she had been all morning, and when Beatrice landed a punch square to Ava's rib cage that should have been too easy to block, she'd finally had enough.

"Ava."

She needn't say anything more than that, Ava shot her a guilty look from where she lay prone on the floor clutching at her side. Beatrice sighed, plonking herself down to lie close beside her fiancé on the training mat. Ava immediately sought out her hand, interlacing their fingers.

"Do you think they split up?" She asked after a moment of them both staring up at the ceiling of their little private training room.

Beatrice frowned, turning to look at Ava's face, "Is that what's been bothering you?"

Ava shrugged, keeping her eyes trained upwards and Beatrice's frown deepened. She was hiding from her.

Though she knew Ava had spoken to Mary the night before last, she hadn't gone into detail about what they'd talked about. All Beatrice knew was Lilith left with Bael earlier this morning and no one had seen Mary since the meeting yesterday.

Beatrice rolled onto her side, propping up on her elbow to see Ava's expression better, "Ava, talk to me."

Ava almost angrily swiped at her cheeks, "It's stupid."

"I'm sure it's not." Beatrice reached out to catch that hand, pulling it aside so she could brush the tears away more gently with the pad of her thumb, "Tell me, please?"

"I just... I'm worried about her." Ava finally whispered, looking at Beatrice with bloodshot eyes, "She's been through so much. She doesn't deserve this."

"Mary?"

She nodded slowly, "But Lilith as well." Ava let out a deep sigh. "They were just so good together, you know?"

It was Beatrice's turn to nod as she combed some of Ava's hair back behind her ear. In the two years of having Ava in her life, Beatrice had come to know, and adore, the Halo bearer's deep empathy for other people. But there was a drawback to Ava's need for everyone to be happy...

"I know, darling." Beatrice replied softly, "And I'm sure they will work it out. But if they don't, that's between them. There's nothing we can do about it. We can't meddle."

Ava pouted, sniffling a little, her eyes sliding past Beatrice and back to the ceiling. It was easy to see there was more to it.

"There's something else..." She gently poked Ava's cheek, smiling when the golden ringed gaze fell back to her, "What is it?"

"It's just... if they can fall out of love like that... who's to say we won't?" A few new tears fell as her fiancé's voice dropped to barely a whisper, "The thought of losing you, it... it's terrifying..."

"Oh, Ava..." Beatrice's heart ached for her, she framed Ava's face with her hands and leaned down to rest their foreheads together, "We are not them, okay? I will always, always love you. No one knows what the future holds, but I know that for certain."

"Really?"

"Of course..." Beatrice couldn't stop the grin from emerging on her lips, "Unless you have a secret husband from the Otherside?"

Ava let out a surprised snort of laughter, "Oh my God, Bea! It's way too soon for jokes!"

"Are you sure?" The sister warrior teased, feigning a serious tone, "You can always tell me, you know?"

"Oh, shut up you idiot." Ava grumbled but had a grin firmly in place as she tilted her chin up to kiss Beatrice soundly.
