~Mary~

Standing before the door to their hotel room, Mary did her best not to sway on her feet as she fumbled with the key.

She was so fucking tired.

Dealing with the, not impressed to see them, Vatican officials was hard enough, but then there was the added stress of trying to keep her demon girlfriend from maiming a bunch of the holier-than-thou-middle aged white dudes... and well, that had just been the icing on the cake.

Said demon girlfriend was standing with her arms crossed leaning against the wall beside the door while picking at her talons as she feigned indifference.

Despite Lilith's outwardly unphased appearance, Mary knew her well enough to pick up the little signs of tension in her body language, her jaw spasming repeatedly as she chewed on the inside of her cheek, her foot tapped lightly against the wooden deck and her eyebrows, perpetually furrowed ever since they'd left the Vatican.

Lilith was putting off some pretty intense don't fuck with me vibes. Anger, annoyance, and something that seemed suspiciously like shame, rolling off her in waves. Mary knew better than to get into it with the other woman while it was so fresh, she would wait until the dust had settled before trying to dig further into what happened.

Muttering a curse when the key stuck briefly in the lock, Mary finally got the door open and limped inside, dropping her duffel bag onto the floor by the bed. Lilith stalked in after her, disappearing into the bathroom without a sound. Mary opened her mouth to call after her but closed it again when she couldn't think of anything helpful to say.

She more than understood why Lilith was upset. Mary herself had been furious when she stumbled upon the 'situation' unfolding between her girlfriend and the Swiss guard...

Leaving the now conscious Beatrice and Ava to talk, Mary let out an enormous sigh of relief as she followed Dora out into the corridor of the hospital wing.

As soon as they had cut the arrow out of the sister warrior's flesh, her Halo had begun to glow, knitting together the damaged skin. Beatrice was out of the woods and Mary was more than grateful to the Vatican doctors regardless of the bad blood between the OCS and the Church.

Though, she really was itching to get out of there.

"Mary!" Camila burst into the hall, breathing hard, obviously having sprinted here as fast as she could.

Mary's stomach dropped, the curly haired nun's pale face and wide eyes could not mean good things...

"It's Lilith..."

Those two words let loose a flood of adrenaline which coursed through Mary's veins, fear for her girlfriend eclipsing everything else.

"Stay here, watch the door." Mary said to Dora before marching towards Camila, "Show me."

The nun took off back in the direction she came, and Mary hightailed it after her, ignoring her protesting body. Lilith needed her and nothing or no one was going to get in her way...Mary would crawl to her if she had to.

When they emerged into the courtyard outside the basilica, a wave of nerves prickled at her skin, it was easy to see that something was very wrong. Dozens of the Swiss guard were bunched together in front of the entrance, all facing outward, weapons drawn and at the ready.
