***Sorry for the delay guys, work blew up last week (not literally :P) and I have been exhausted.***
~Lilith~
The explosion of power Ava let loose was like a sonic boom. It sent a shockwave through the marble floor, shook the very atoms in the air, and unleashed a flash of light so blinding that even closing her eyes wasn't enough to block it out.
When the blaze had finally faded enough to not burn her retinas, Lilith opened her eyes to see Ava still stood in front of her, only now in a form that she had nightmares about.
"Oh."
Solid gold eyes rose from where they were fixed on the inch long talons curled around the crimson piece of metal to look back at her.
"Fuck."
Lilith couldn't run, she knew she wouldn't be fast enough, not with the fully transformed Ava within touching distance, and she was too weak to fight. Ava herself hadn't moved from her position, but she was watching her with a disturbingly intense expression.
Lilith needed to do something, but before she could, a foot long piece of divinium fell between them.
What the...?
They both looked up to see a spider web of cracks forming in the glowing blue cage. Several of the supportive side bars had completely blown out in the explosion, and now weakened, the rest of the structure was crumbling. More pieces fell to the marble floor, shattering on impact. Lilith lifted an arm to shield her face as divinium shrapnel pelted them. Ava raised her golden wing like an umbrella, her face remaining impassive despite the deadly rain.
It continued until only a skeleton of the cage was left and Lilith felt a renewed wave of strength settle over her as the muting effect of the divinium was broken.
Ava had destroyed it.
They were free.
But Ava was still looking at her with that emotionless expression, any moment now she would stalk forward and finish it. Lilith's heart began to race, then a piercing scream came from the right, followed by another, and another.
She jerked her head toward the crowd searching for the reason behind the noise and saw several angels had taken the brunt of the divinium that had been blasted outward. One had a forearm sized shard protruding from their stomach, another was holding the side of their face, blood pumping out between their fingers from the long, deep wound caused by a glancing blow, another lay unmoving under a man-sized beam of divinium.
It was bad. The longer she looked the worse it got; the sides of the cage littered the stands.
The crowd panicked.
That's when the doors to the pit burst open, revealing a flood of guards, and Ava's focus finally pulled away from Lilith as all hell broke loose.
~
The angelic guards swarmed Ava, their spears and swords slashing, stabbing at her, trying to overwhelm Ava's defenses, but it was a fruitless endeavor. All she had to do was sweep her golden wing down, the corresponding wave of energy brushing aside a swathe of opponents, those unlucky enough to be caught in the blast sent hurtling into the marble walls of the pit. It was a devastating display of raw power and fuck Lilith was glad it wasn't being directed at her.
That's when she saw him, a guard, sneaking up behind Ava while she was busy fighting the majority of his brethren. Lilith tensed. It was too loud in here to shout out a warning, the noise of the fight, the clamor of the crowd, was deafening. He stalked closer, and she tried to pull herself to her feet, but her broken body wouldn't move fast enough, she was exhausted, drained from the fight.
