~Ava~

Coming to on a hard, cold floor Ava couldn't help but let out a pained groan at the stiffness she could already feel radiating down her spine. She was really getting sick of waking up with no idea where she was.

"Ava?" There was a voice above her, whispering in a way that was so familiar, yet oddly different at the same time. "Are you okay?"

She blinked open her eyes letting out a soft hiss at the glaring light.

Her own face looked back at her.

Was it a reflection? But then the face, her face, raised an eyebrow and Ava knew for a goddamn fact that her own expression hadn't changed. The face above her might be her face, but it wasn't her face.

Horror swelled in her gut.

It's wearing my fucking face!

And it was too fucking close.

Adrenaline surging, Ava closed her right hand and delivered a hard punch right to the thing's nose.

"What the actual fuck!?"

The thing recoiled and Ava shot upright, scooting away from the face stealer, only realizing with a bolt of terror that the creature was wearing her body as well. They were absolutely identical to her, even in clothing, indistinguishable right down to the moon shaped earrings studding their ears.

"Ow, ow, ow!" The other Ava clutched at her face, tears streaming down her cheeks. "For God's sake, Ava, that was entirely uncalled for!"

Their voice may be a carbon copy of her own, but Ava recognized their way of speaking almost immediately. "Halo?"

"Who else would I be?" Halo complained, blood oozing between the fingers clutching their nose, her nose.

"You should tip your head back..." Ava said absentmindedly. She was utterly stunned by the turn of events.

Halo had a body.

Why did Halo have a body?

And why the FUCK was it her body?

Wait... did she have a body?! Ava's hands flew to her own torso as she looked down at herself, feeling the warmth and substance of her own body. Sweet relief calmed the storm of panic. Thank God...

A little more secure in the knowledge she was still in her own body, Ava refocused on the situation at hand and lifted her gaze back up to the bloody faced doppelgänger opposite her. She could scarcely believe what was happening right now.

"How...?"

Head still titled back; Halo shrugged. They pinched the bridge of their nose in one hand while the other dabbed at the blood that managed to escape. Halo winced at the blood-stained sleeves around their wrists. "I assume it's something to do with being here."

Here. Ava allowed her eyes to stray around the room. Where the hell was here?

They were in a white-walled room, two skylights in the ceiling allowing in a horribly glaring white light. There was no furniture, no windows, and, oddly enough, no door.

"Where are we?" She murmured, suddenly feeling incredibly uncomfortable.

"Um..." It was crazy how Halo sounded just like her, and Ava knew exactly what the slightly higher pitch in their voice meant.

She narrowed her eyes, turning towards Halo again. "What?"

"Do you, ah, do you remember what happened?" Halo's expression was bordering on guilt stricken. "How we got here?"
