The sound of footsteps hitting the ground in the rural village echoed loudly as Kan turned around, picking up his packed bag and getting ready to head to Bangkok today for the workshop that the series team had scheduled. He had asked Kim to be the driver to take him to Bangkok since he didn't want to take a bus. Everyone knew that traveling like that was like torturing oneself, and he didn't want to arrive exhausted.
"Ready yet?" Kim walked in and asked after parking the car in front of Kan's house.
"Just about," Kan replied.
"Need help loading the stuff into the car?"
"In that case, take my clothes bag first. I'll handle the rest later."
"Ok."
"Thanks a lot."
Kan quickly gathered his essential documents that he needed to take with him, put them in a small backpack, and zipped them up before slinging them over his shoulder. He didn't forget the snacks and the packed lunch that his mother had prepared for him. She had told him to keep it in the cooler bag to save some money on food. Besides the lunch, there was also a large bag of rice, about 10 kilograms. Kan had told his mother that he would be staying in Bangkok for three months, so she had prepared accordingly.
Kan's legs hurriedly came to the car as he opened the door and sat down in the passenger seat next to Kim. He closed the door and fastened his seatbelt.
"Ready," he said.
"Great, let's go."
"Don't forget anything," Kim reminded him.
"Nah, I've got everything."
"Alright then."
Vroom!
The sound of the car engine revved up, and with a pounding heart, Kan felt the car move away from his familiar home. In truth, Kan wasn't used to the feeling of leaving his comfort zone. He had spent his entire life in his hometown, never venturing beyond the borders of the province where he was born. He had never gone out in search of new experiences. Instead, he spent his days glued to the television screen, watching reality competition shows and singing contests that aired 24/7. His friends had stopped inviting him out because they knew he would just go back to watching TV once he finished his errands.
Kan's dreams of working in the entertainment industry began in earnest when he was just in second grade. His teacher had decided to make him the class representative for a school singing competition on Christmas Day. But back then, he felt embarrassed and ran off the stage before he could finish singing the song.
And that was the first wound embedded in Kan's heart during his childhood. Following that incident, he was mocked by his peers and even chastised by his regular teacher. This made him a kid who was afraid of singing competitions. Fortunately, Kan's parents continued to support and encourage him throughout, allowing him to pass through this difficult time with a smile on his face.
When he entered junior high school, he faced another round of teasing from his friends, especially after the teacher's nephew had the opportunity to enter the entertainment industry and act in popular TV dramas that aired on weekends. Kan decided to confide in his teacher, expressing his desire to enter the entertainment industry as well. His friends made fun of him again, but he had some immunity in this matter, so the incident didn't affect him much. However, he always remembered the day that marked the beginning of his journey to overcome the ridicule.
During his time in junior high school, Kan practiced singing every day by buying karaoke CDs of his favorite artists. He would practice until his parents asked him to take a break. Some days, he was even asked to sing at events and weddings to gain experience. His neighbors started to enjoy his singing, and sometimes they even called him to sing when they gathered for evening drinks. Kan's life seemed to be getting happier with his newfound passion.
