"For today, it's our first time meeting, and I must say I'm quite impressed. Many of you are quite talented, especially in acting. As for those who received feedback, take it as your homework. You'll need to work on the areas that still need improvement, and we'll see each other again in the next workshop," the acting coach summarized as the hour-long workshop came to an end. Kan couldn't help but sigh. This was his first time learning to act for real, and he still felt like he was struggling, especially when it came to understanding his own emotions and feelings.
The acting coach had told Kan to be more honest with his feelings, to understand how he felt, and to act accordingly. Kan thought he was already doing that, but the coach's feedback showed otherwise. It seemed that what Kan was doing was learning to be less honest with his feelings, a behavior he had picked up over time. It was a behavior where his words didn't match his true feelings, a characteristic of someone who wasn't sincere with their emotions. It seemed like an easy thing to change, but in reality, it was quite challenging. It would take time to work on it.
Kan walked out of the workshop feeling a bit floaty as he contemplated the coach's teachings from earlier. Before he could think further, he realized he hadn't called Kim yet to check if he had finished his errands. He quickly retrieved his phone from his back pocket, unlocked the screen, and dialed his number before making the call.
(Are you done already?) Kim asked as soon as he picked up the phone.
"Yes, I'm done."
(Where are you? I'll come find you.)
"How about the coffee shop?"
(Okay, what do you want to drink? I'll order for you in advance.)
"A Valencia with 2 extra shots of coffee."
(I knew it! You're so predictable.)
"How so?"
(I just knew you'd order that.)
"It's my favorite, you know."
(Thanks to me, right? I introduced you to that drink.)
"Yeah, yeah. See you soon!" Kan laughed softly, ending the call and putting his phone back in his pocket.
Walking through the mall in a bit of a daze, Kan headed to the familiar coffee shop chain he loved, confident that Kim would know exactly where to meet. He'd only been in Bangkok for a short time, but every time they were here, he'd eye that particular coffee shop, mentioning to his friend beside him how much he craved a drink from there. Yet, time never allowed for a quick coffee break.
As he approached the coffee shop, the automatic doors slid open, revealing a line of customers that stretched almost to the door. Perhaps it was so busy because it was a holiday. He glanced around, searching for his close friend, who said he'd find a seat. It didn't take long for Kan to spot Kim, engrossed in his phone, seated at a table in the furthest corner. He walked straight over.
"You're here," Kan said, dropping into the chair opposite him.
"How was it?"
"I'm going insane," Kan exclaimed.
"Why?" Kim asked, puzzled.
"I got scolded a lot," Kan said with a hint of frustration.
"What? Who scolded you?"
"They told me to go back and do more homework, to be honest with my feelings. When I act, don't overthink it."
"But where did they say you got scolded? This sounds more like constructive feedback to help you improve," Kim said, looking annoyed because Kan still couldn't distinguish between criticism and advice.
